DARE TO DREAM Someone once commented that "One of the most powerful things in the world is a dream. Not those dreams that come to us while we sleep, but those we consciously pursue while we are awake." Think of how dreams have shaped our modern life. Of Martin Luther King whose famous speech began, I have a dream today." And of Robert Kennedy who said, "Some men see things as they are and ask "Why?"; I dream things that never were and ask 'Why not?'" Think of how children's lives are often shaped by their parent's dreams. I remember, for instance, that the mother of Moses was more influential to his eventual development than all the scholars of Pharaoh.
William Herbert Carruth once wrote: "We are all of us dreamers of dreams; On visions our childhood is fed; And the heart of a child is unhaunted, it seems, By the ghosts of dreams that are dead.... "There's no sadder sight this side of the grave Than a shroud o'er a fond dream spread, And the heart should be stern and the eyes be brave To gaze on a dream that is dead.... "Let him show a brave face if he can, Let him woo fame or fortune instead, Yet there's not much to do but to bury a man When the best of his dreams is dead." Genesis 11:31-32 in the Hebrew scriptures may give one example of how dreams can get sidetracked or forgotten. Just two verses...but what a story. Terah, the father of Abraham, had started out on a journey for Caanan. He had enough religion to hear God's call and leave paganism. But he was attracted by the bright lights and comfort of Haran. Now, Haran (in what is now Turkey) was a good distance from his old city of Ur (in what is now Iran) but it's on the same side of the river. A fun place perhaps, but not God's destination for his people. I heard a rabbi once say that Haran symbolizes a place of arrested development, forgotten dreams and unrealized opportunities. Abram (whose name would eventually be changed to Abraham), was not satisfied with half-way, however. He moved on to Canaan to become "The Father of the Faithful." Hebrews 11:10 (in the Christian scriptures) describes him as looking for a city "whose builder and maker is God." A worthy legacy...and one which has influenced us all. Think for a moment. What are the dreams that have shaped YOUR life? That determined your direction, or helped you to make it to this station on your life's journey? Have they empowered and called forth the best in you? Can they help you become the person you think God intended you to be? Do you still hold on to them, and nurture them? Important questions...I hope you can take some time this weekend to reflect on, and perhaps recover, "the power of a dream." But be careful what you dream! It may come true, and even if it isn't realized in your lifetime, it will affect you, and perhaps even the way people remember you...forever. CAPT J. David Atwater, CHC, USN

Howdy, Kathy.
I hope your weekend’s been good so far.
It must have warmed up quite a bit the past couple of days. Almost all the ice on Lake Hood has melted and the first two seaplanes have started the summer season with take-offs with pontoons today. I reckon all the other pilots are busy swapping out skis for pontoons on their planes.
I can even see hints of green grass on Gull Island in the middle of the lake. I do believe spring is about to FINALLY make an appearance up there!

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...and Tippy, too.
A Blessed Lord’s Day and Shavua Tov to you and yours.
My computer decided it needed to reboot without my permission. And now we’ve had a couple electricity blips.

Our Daily Bread Sunday, May 1, 2022 Let There Be Light Read: Genesis 1:1–5
Our Daily Bread

May 1, 2022
Let There Be Light
God said, “Let there be light.” Genesis 1:3
In my daughter’s earliest days, I often named for her the things she encountered. I’d identify objects or allow her to touch something unfamiliar and say the word for her, bringing understanding—and vocabulary—to the vast world she was exploring. Though my husband and I might naturally have expected (or hoped) her first word would be Mama or Daddy, she surprised us with an entirely different first word: her small mouth murmured dight one day—a sweet, mispronounced echo of the word light I’d just shared with her.
Light is one of God’s first words recorded for us in the Bible. As the Spirit of God hovered over a dark, formless, and empty Earth, God introduced light into His creation, saying, “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3). He said the light was good, which the rest of Scripture bears out: the psalmist explains that God’s words illuminate our understanding (Psalm 119:130), and Jesus refers to Himself as “the light of the world,” the giver of the light of life (John 8:12).
God’s first utterance in the work of creation was to give light. That wasn’t because He needed light to do His work; no, the light was for us. Light enables us to see Him and to identify His fingerprints on the creation around us, to discern what is good from what is not, and to follow Jesus one step at a time in this vast world. — Kirsten Holmberg
In what area of your life do you most need God’s light right now? How has His light helped you in the past?
Thank You, Jesus, for being the light of life, who illuminates the path for me every day.

Hey there, Kathy.
You bet my feet are up! LOL Da doggies are barkin’ tonight.
I did walk out to the garage for a bit to check on Hubby’s progress with repairs on my car and just got back. that was a looooooong walk.
It was non-stop tours from the moment I got to the museum this morning. I’m beat but it was a really good, fun day.

I’ve only got a really small patch left in the front yard...and it’s not long for this world. Good thing...the yard guys will be here sometime next week for spring clean up.
Some sun this morning, but that’s long gone. Looking like rain, but could we be so lucky? The street sweepers are out on the main roads now, but boy, do they have their work cut out for them!
Ski planes are fun to watch, but so are pontoons.

Hey there, radu!
It was really nice today. About 88 for a high.
I’m on a Zoom chat with Steve and some other chatters. Probably won’t get a chance to post tunes tonight.

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

Is the small patch the last gasp of Snow Mountain in your front yard? That was a mighty big pile this year.
You know spring is here when it’s time for the yard guys to do their thing. :-)
I’m looking forward to seeing everything green up again. I’m sure y’all are too!
The seaplanes are fun to watch, skis or pontoons, but I enjoy watching the big planes land and take off from Stevens even more. And the different military planes from Elmendorf when the cam ops track them with the cam.
