Establishment Sen. Lisa Murkowski Laments ‘I May Not Be Re-Elected’

Establishment Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) on Thursday admitted she may lose her primary bid to Donald Trump-endorsed candidate Kelly Tshibaka.

“I may not be re-elected,” Murkowski told the New York Times about the possible end of her 20-year Senate career.

“It may be that Alaskans say, ‘Nope, we want to go with an absolute, down-the-line, always, always, 100-percent, never-question, rubber-stamp Republican,’ she said about Tshibaka who is leading in the polls.

“And if they say that that’s the way that Alaska has gone — kind of the same direction that so many other parts of the country have gone — I have to accept that,” Murkowski added. “But I’m going to give them the option… Maybe I am just completely politically naïve, and this ship has sailed. But I won’t know unless we — unless I — stay out there and give Alaskans the opportunity to weigh in.”

Murkowski’s worries come as Tshibaka has picked up steam heading into the August 16 GOP primary. Tshibaka has won the endorsement of the Alaskan Republican Party and scored Trump’s endorsement. Polling is also favorable for Tshibaka.

A poll, sampled as Alaska’s new ranked-choice voting system will hold the November election, discovered Tshibaka would win over 50 percent of the vote. Breitbart News’s Matt Boyle reported:

“I may not be re-elected,” Murkowski told the New York Times about the possible end of her 20-year Senate career.

That would be excellent. 😁

The Turtle is supporting her because he always, always supports incumbents. It's the leverage he uses to apply pressure when he really needs votes. And he tells them all that if they stick by him, he'll stick by them.

But I'd bet he'd much rather see her replaced by someone who he doesn't have babysit and cajole for every vote.

If I recall correctly, she once lost a GOP primary, but then won the general election as an independent and/or write in candidate. Anyone else remember that?

Yes. In 2010.

“...possible end of her 20-year Senate career.”

~~~
“Senate” and “career” are two words that should never be put together.
The founders wanted citizen statesmen to give up some of their time in service of the people and then go home and resume their lives and careers.
Incumbency is a plague of mindless name recognition and reciprocation for perceived power.
I hope she loses. She got in on a write in campaign and they cheated. They accepted ballots with he name misspelled. She should have never been in the Senate.
An end to her twenty year senate career? Boo-hoo. Republicans want to be represented by a Republican again. That her, Mittens and Collins and be counted on to vote with the other side without nuanced thinking says all we need to know. It’s one thing to work bipartisan but it’s another to be counted upon to vote with the other side of the aisle with such routine. It’s funny how Manchen is seen as a problematic Dem and the gang of three are seen as level headed, etc, etc. Like McCain was a maverick and the kind of Republican we should have except when he was the nominee and he was torched by his pals in the press. He fell for it. It’s not hard to suspect the songbird stories might be true in light of his childish involvement in the Russia collusion hoax. Really sad.
