The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is an independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher dedicated to being a resource for its members, government officials, business executives, journalists, educators and students, civic and religious leaders, and other interested citizens in order to help them better understand the world and the foreign policy choices facing the United States and other countries. Founded in 1921, CFR takes no institutional positions on matters of policy. Our goal is to start a conversation in this country about the need for Americans to better understand the world.

That’s stupid. Lets cause an ice age. BTW if they wanted to do this they could shove a couple of nukes down an explosive active volcano and cause it to Krakatoa. But that would also release a volume of greenhouse gases that would take humanity 200+ years to emit.

You actually either believe this garbage or have some plan to profit from some sort of a new ice age??

Okay, this can’t end well. They come up with these crazy ideas and then don’t consider all of the possible problems that might arise.
A solution for a non-problem. Lemme guess — it will cost trillions of dollars (mostly coming from developed nations such as north America) and “the fate of humanity and the world are at stake.”

I have a better idea...lets just move the earth a little farther from the sun. That will stop this warming...

Why don’t we just drop some small nukes into every volcano, set them loose for a “nuclear winter”, and drop the Erf’s temps to an ice age... that’ll work just fine, eco-wacko greenie scumbags.

The first approach, for instance, would mimic the cooling effect of volcanic eruptions like that of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines in 1991, which reduced global temperatures between 0.5 and 1.1°C over the next fifteen months. Why mimic volcanoes when you can just engineer a volcanoe?

They’re now trying to justify what’s been going on for 25 years already.

I wonder what these retards think will happen to our "rich and diverse" biosphere when they turn the planet into Snowball Earth.

The author, Stewart Patrick has a gift for writing beautiful sentences rife with self important flourishes of grandeur. It baffles me how so many gorgeous sentences can be strung together and say absolutely nothing. The man has a gift indeed. I suppose the authors intention is for us to be enraptured with his prose and ignore the vapid, feckless and absurd content.

What nonsense! Back in the 1970s with THE COMING ICE AGE scare it was suggested that we mine coal, grind it to dust, mix it with oil and spray it on the ice fields to increase temps to prevent the New Ice Age.

Anyone remember these same “climate” idiots back in the ‘70s proposing to SPRAY CRUDE OIL on snow in the Arctic to absorb heat and warm a cooling planet?
Yeah, they have lots of good ideas.

Billions of “research” dollars are at stake, that’s reason enough for these flunkies to sell out, encouraged by greedy grant-seeking “climate scientists.” There may be a few true believers, but most of these guys don’t believe this garbage for a minute.
