How Musk will put his mark on Twitter: New boss wants to ditch ads in favor of subscriptions that can be bought with Dogecoin, introduce longer tweets, turn HQ into homeless shelter, fire woke staff and kill bots

Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter will see substantial changes implemented on the social media platform with everything from longer tweets and paid subscriptions using 'joke' cryptocurrency Dogecoin all within the realm of possibility.

He is said to favor temporary 'timeouts' for users who break the new rules, rather than permanent bans such as those given to Donald Trump. . . .

Details of his immediate plans are slim, but the Tesla chief portrays himself as a free-speech absolutist. Other mooted changes include blue verification checkmarks for anyone who subscribes to Twitter's premium Blue service, which costs $2.99 a month.

Musk is said to favor a subscription-based model over advertiser funding, as it would make Twitter less beholden to advertiser pressure. He has even suggested users could pay with cryptocurrency, including joke currency Dogecoin which Musk has long had an affection for.

A conversion to subscription will kill Twitter. Then the libs will create a new forum, which will be puffed up and built up by the media.

Subscription plan might not work. My cat has an account @catsoftwitter, and she’s totally broke.

Best comment re purchase yesterday at DM: “Musk should buy YouTube and Facebook too and combine them into “YouTwitFace.”

Subscriptions kill the bots and leftist trolls because the payment could be tracked. Even a .99 cent a month Subscription to post would kill lots of hate.

The way I read it was that the subscription was to obtain the coveted blue checkmark.

Which is fine by me because I always hated the way that Twitter would selectively hand out the blue checkmarks. It was much harder for conservatives to get one but Twitter would give it to just about any leftist.

I’m guessing Musk anticipates an advertising boycott should he not toe the deep state narrative, and therefore needs to line up an alternative. If I were him I wouldn’t require everyone to sign up for a subscription, rather I would grant those subscribing special privileges as an inducement, otherwise it’s likely to shunt its growth.

Yeah, nobody is going to pay for tweeting or reading. Maybe big companies can do it, like they do on Google now.

I hope he isn’t going for a total subscription model cause that will fail real fast.

The subscription is for the “premium” service, whatever that means.

“turn HQ into homeless shelter...”

This particular item is a humiliating kick in the crotch!

OK now that would make more sense. Musk isn’t stupid and I’m eager to see what changes he makes. Running a ‘free speech’ forum isn’t going to be as easy as he thinks.

It was reported that Twitter could not survive because of the —as I understand it—massive, huge, humongous amount of subscribers, hardware required, ever-expanding bandwidth, etc. so advertising was their only means of surviving.

One pundit theorized they could only exist with a government underwriting the operation.

‘And, wasn’t it Twitter that was denigrated as a bad investment because they owned nothing, sold nothing.

A low cost subscription and pricier premium subscription looks like a good plan, especially if advertisers back away.

I’m not sure if he is saying the whole platform will be subscription only, or if you will just need to subscribe to get the “blue check mark” status.
