All good soldiers know very well there is nothing to fear while they do what is right, and forget all the worries they have met in their duties through the year. Canteen Mission Statement
Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allies military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.
ANZAC War Memorial, Sydney, Australia Anzac Day is commemorated by Australia and New Zealand on 25 April every year to remember members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who landed at Gallipoli in Turkey during World War I. Anzac Day is also observed in the Cook Islands, Niue, and Tonga. It is no longer observed as a national holiday in Samoa. Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. The acronym ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, whose soldiers were known as Anzacs. The pride they took in that name endures to this day, and Anzac Day remains one of the most important national occasions of both Australia and New Zealand. When war broke out in 1914, Australia had been a Federal Commonwealth for only thirteen years. In 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of an Allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli Peninsula to open the way to the Black Sea for the Allied navies. The plan was to capture Istanbul, capital of the Ottoman Empire and an ally of Germany. The ANZAC force landed at Gallipoli on 25 April, meeting fierce resistance from the Turkish defenders. What had been planned as a bold strike to knock Turkey out of the war quickly became a stale-mate, and the campaign dragged on for eight months. At the end of 1915, the Allied forces were evacuated after both sides had suffered heavy casualties and endured great hardships. Over 8,000 Australian and 2,700 New Zealand soldiers died. News of the landing at Gallipoli made a profound impact on Australians and New Zealanders at home and 25 April quickly became the day on which they remembered the sacrifice of those who had died in war. Though the Gallipoli campaign failed in its military objectives of capturing Istanbul and knocking Turkey out of the war, the Australian and New Zealand troops' actions during the campaign bequeathed an intangible but powerful legacy. The creation of what became known as an "Anzac legend" became an important part of the national identity in both countries. This shaped the ways they viewed both their past and their future. More ANZAC Day information Australian poet Banjo Paterson wrote the words to "Waltzing Matilda" in January 1895 while staying at Dagworth Station, a sheep and cattle station near Winton in Central West Queensland owned by the Macpherson family. The words were written to a tune played on a zither or autoharp by 31‑year‑old Christina Macpherson, one of the family members at the station. Waltzing Matilda - click

I hear ya on the wind going away. We don’t have all the sand blowing around like y’all do but it’s still irritating when it goes on and on and on. It’s been blowing every day here for over a week though it dies down every night.
I was tickled pink to get to ride in the APC. The others rode in it last year when the guy who owns it took it up there before we reopened. I wasn’t there that day and was so disappointed. Yesterday made up for it though.
Boss Man took that shot just before we took off. We rode around the field in back of the museum and raced up and down the gravel parking lot on the other side of the building several times. It hadn’t been driven since last year and needed the ‘cobwebs’ blown out. :-)
Then came back up and went out into the parking lot in front and he parked it close to the road for a while.
It was a little while before my feet touched the ground again. LOL That ride was so much fun.

It looked like a blast! I wouldn’t have had to be asked twice to ride in it. Those moments don’t come around very often. With pigtails flying! :)

They never have to ask twice if I’d like to ride in one of the vehicles. LOL It doesn’t happen often but when it does, I’m THERE!
The pigtails were definitely flying several times during the ride. :-)

This Australian veteran thanks you for posting this.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them

I hope you get more chances to ride in it or any other cool vehicles that they bring in that can be driven.
I’m fading fast. I think I’ll finish this show and crash. 7:30 was waaaaaaay too early this morning. Peaches kept trying to talk me into going back to sleep. LOL! See ya tomorrow!

It was and we didn't get to spend much time over there because it was raining and there was some thunder which spooked Giz.
I was however able to get 2 headshots of him yesterday while we were there.
Today is forecast to be much nicer today however so I should be able to have more pics tomorrow morning here. 😀

There will be more opportunities, I’m sure. Several vehicles are operable. We had 8 or 9 in a Christmas parade last year and I rode in a 3/4-ton weapons carrier that day.
The one I really want to ride in is the Camp Forrest fire truck the museum bought and restored. Camp Forrest was a significant part of WWII history and it was local.
Maybe one day .....
Get some good sleep tonight and enjoy cooler temps tomorrow.

I’m surprised you went out there at all with the weather so crummy. At least y’all got out of the house for a little while.
It’s moved out of your area at last and is sloooooowly working its way over here. You two will be good to go for your daily romp. :-)
