IN GENTLENESS THERE IS STRENGTH
The parents were devastated. Their young adopted daughter had died in an unusual accident. She suffocated when the drawstring on the hood of her jacket became caught in a playground slide. It was later learned their child was not the first to die this way. Design flaws in both the hood and the slide made this an accident waiting to happen. Some people might have viewed this tragedy as an opportunity to sue the two major corporations for a lucrative settlement. The parents, however, refused. In an interview, the mother said she would have seen any remuneration as "blood money". She and her husband believed the leaders of the two companies never intended to harm her child or any other child. Instead of a lawsuit, the parents appealed to the clothing and slide manufacturers to correct the design flaws which had led to the death of their daughter. Both companies took immediate action. Today the parents are leaders in a campaign to promote child safety, and the companies involved have contributed substantially toward their cause. It is not always wrong to sue. There are times when it is the prudent thing to do. It seems, however, that our society has become increasingly litigious, suing without discretion for profit and personal gain. In light of today’s litigious climate, one cannot help but be moved by the choice of these parents not to sue. Instead they chose a "higher ground", earning not only the willing cooperation of both companies, but strong allies in their campaign to promote child safety as well. We might say they took the "pure, peaceable and gentle way" described in the third chapter of James in the Christian scriptures (James 3:17) as opposed to the adversarial way offered them via the courts. An ancient Native American saying reads, "In gentleness there is great strength". Dag Hammarskjold, former Secretary General to the United Nations and recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, put it this way, "Nothing is so strong as gentleness, and nothing so gentle as true strength". In the end, the gentle, peaceable way of these parents demonstrated the greater strength and wisdom. CAPT Jane F. Vieira, CHC, USN

Howdy, luvie.
How goes it down your way? Is there any relief to the heat yet?
It would been close to uncomfortable here the past two days but the wind was pretty strong and that made it feel nice. One more hot day, then we cool back down again for a few days.
Da roller coaster ride ain’t over yet. LOL

Hey there, radu! Yesterday was HELLISH with the wind blowing at near gale-force. All day and all night, and wayyyyy too hot. Today was better. Still a bit too warm at 90. Tomorrow a bit cooler than that in the high 80s and THEN 63...yes, you see it right, 63...on Monday. Aaaand maybe rain. Not holding my breath. They've promised so many times. I'm glad you had enough breeze to keep the heat from becoming too much. I'm sure it was cooler up on the mountain, right? Did ya have mucho fun? I'll bet folks were happy to see y'all opened back up.

Your wind is probably from the same source ours is - - the strong low spinning up north. It’s spit out a few tornados the past couple of nights. I don’t think we’re supposed to get rough weather when it comes through here. Waiting for the weather report to see if they’ve changed it since last night.
We weren’t as hot as you were but mid 80s was still plenty hot. Or would have been without the wind. The temp on the mountain was the same as it was here, surprisingly. It’s usually 4 to 5 degrees cooler.
Wow! That’s quite a cool-down you’ll have Monday! We cool down to 60s Tuesday with lows in the 40s. I have a few plants on the front porch I’ll need to put back in the garage since 40s is a bit chilly for them.
It was so fun being back in gear at the museum. Yesterday was pretty slow but today we had a steady flow.

Glad you got to lead some tours...such fun for you.
I was sound asleep when the phone rang at 6:45a....Best Buy calling to confirm delivery and set up of my new, little freezer on Wednesday afternoon. The guy apologized after he told me CDT and I counted backwords out loud to find my time. LOL! Needless to say, I’m drooping.

I watched Reed Timmer chasing some tornadoes in the OKC area and thinking how nice that my kids weren’t still there to worry about. I’m not sure that one touched down, but there was a lot of activity.
I’m already tired of heat. Next Friday it’s supposed to be 100 and even the thought of it makes me depressed. LOL!
Sounds like your 🎢 is still going strong over there. Best to enjoy the cool before the real heat hits, though. You’ll miss it. :)

Ouch!! That’s a perfect example of why there is no phone anywhere near my bedroom. When I’m awake I can barely hear the phone in the kitchen ring.
I take it you weren’t able to go back to sleep? We’re both drooping tonight. LOL
A new freezer? Did you finally fill your existing one?
It was great doing tours again and meeting people from all around. I’m definitely ready to sleep in tomorrow - LOL - but am looking forward to next Friday.

I had Ryan Hall up for a little while and he was up in IA doing some chasing rather than just reporting on the situations from home. And I checked on the Live Storm Chasing bunch a bit too.
It’s a strong front but apparently will calm down enough by the time it gets here Monday that we won’t have severe weather. That could still change though.
Dang! It’s hard to fathom 100 degrees this early in the year. That would depress anyone. Have a bunch of ice cubes on hand so you can put some in the kitties’ water dish periodically through the day.

I hope it slows down before it reaches you. It was pretty active in the heartland all day I’m guessing. At least you won’t be caught up on the mountain in a storm.
Ahhh...the ice cubes are an excellent idea. I keep their dish under the patio table in the shade, but have to remember summer tricks now. Poor kitties. Hubby is going to put water into our poor empty rain barrels because it keeps them cooler and the kitties lie behind them. Smart little things. :)

We’ll just have to keep tabs on the front as it gets closer. They’ve said before that a front wouldn’t give us much trouble only to be wrong in the end.
Yes, ice cubes in their water periodically helps. Our cats’ water dish was in a shady spot but when it’s hot outside, the water’s going to get mighty warm anyway. It’ll keep them hydrated but if it’s cooled a bit, it cools them off a little when they drink it.
Every little bit helps. :-)

We do what we can with these sweet things that depend on us.
Guess I’d better finish this show and then head out. As badly as I’ve been sleeping, I’d better get a decent head start, or I’ll hate myself in the morning. See ya tomorrow night!

Yes, we do do what we can for them. They’re special lil critters that we love dearly. They’re worth the effort.
I hope you’re able to get a decent sleep tonight. It’s going to be hard enough to wake up early as it is. Kinda tough being night owls, huh? LOL
Catch ya tomorrow night.
