It really is of benefit in at least two ways.
One, obviously if the criminal should expire from his/her wounds relatively quickly then there is no cost to house, feed, clothe, put on a trial, possibly even have to provide a public defender, and possibly have to feed/clothe/house and provide medical care for the perp for years. So a fair amount of direct savings right there.
Two, every shot criminal, and particularly every dead criminal, acts as a deterrent to other criminals. Word gets around, and they'll have to start asking themselves if they really want to risk their life for the pocket change I might have on me, or for a 5 year old TV. Because while it may be just pocket change or an old TV - I don't know and can't trust that those are all you're really after, so I'm all-in during any confrontation.
Sure ....Grady is our sheriff, and he’s good, very good.
However his stance on personal ownership of the evil black rifle is little known outside our county borders. At least the few times he shot his mouth off about this the push back was severe.
He has enjoyed a long elected tenure from the voters due his tough on crime outlook and a general hands off policy for folks who have found it necessary to defend one’s self, hearth and home.
He loves the camera though. The conventional wisdom here is that the most dangerous place to be is between Grady Judd and a TV camera.
He’s got a point.
And the good part is that they will never have to serve a
day in prison.
Now that’s what I call humane.

I think that’s one reason why the FF included the Second Amendment. Personal protection. I don’t get why it’s difficult for some to understand.
Always remember a dead home invader tells no tales. Such as “I was just there to get a telephone to help my friend who needed the Dr. and I begged Mr. Homeowner not to shoot me.”
He shouldn’t say the quiet part out loud.
Besides, shooting criminals can be very expensive for homeowners.
Unfortunately, the other thing this does is create a “Shoot first” mentality in the criminal.
It would bore me to rifle through all the paperwork. I’m too high caliber for that.

Nowadays they’ll shoot you first anyway. I’d rather be the one making that choice.
The criminal has the initiative - he knows what he is about to do, picks his target, etc.
I would like to see the death penalty make a big time comeback so that the criminal loses, no matter the outcome.
