Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday called off an operation to storm the Azovstal steel plant in the city of Mariuol, where over 2,000 Ukrainian militants remain entrenched, according to the Russian military. At a meeting with Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, the head of state demanded that the plant be blocked so that "even a fly can’t get in or out," and another offer to surrender be made to those holed up at the facility. TASS has put together vital information on decisions made by the commander-in-chief.
Russian troops and the forces of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) have taken control of the entire city of Mariupol except for the Azovstal plant, Shoigu reported to the president. According to the defense chief, the plant, where "the remaining nationalist militants and foreign mercenaries are ensconced," has been securely blocked. Shoigu pointed out that the Kiev regime had significantly fortified Mariupol where about 8,100 troops, militants from nationalist battalions and foreign mercenaries were stationed at the time when the city was surrounded. Over 4,000 Ukrainian fighters were killed during military activities and another almost 1,500 surrendered to Russia. However, Shoigu did not reveal the number of Russian casualties.
Russian and DPR forces took every measure to protect civilian lives during the operation to liberate Mariupol, the defense minister stressed. Starting on March 21, humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians and foreign nationals opened every day, Russia managed to evacuate 142,700 people and release all those who were being held hostage at the Mariupol port. The current situation in the city "makes it possible to launch activities to restore order, ensure the return of local residents and set up peaceful life," Shoigu added.

After the Snake Island incident, I am sure Putin does want to create Ukrainian equivalent of “remember the Alamo.”
Personally, I would like to see Ukraine flatten the Russian naval station at Sevastopol into rubble. If Russia can destroy Ukrainian cities, why can’t Ukraine destroy Russian military bases within what was once a part of Ukraine, the Crimea.
I also think the Russians want them dead.
If left alive, many of these Ukrainians will become trouble later for the Russians.
It will be hard for Russia to monitor / track these folks.
I think if there is a chance that chem weapons are used (low probably), this would be the time and place. Sort of an ideal situation. No civilian casualties, safe for ones own troops, easy to employ, good psychological effect, maybe a good environment (enclosed spaces).

You’re getting this from the Biden Ukraine, which is perfectly happy to offer up its people to support Joe Biden. The best meme I heard was something that had Biden saying “We are willing to fight to the last Ukrainian.”
Putin has publicly stated that he will safeguard them, that he has called off the attack because there was no point in attacking this plant (since the 2000 men in it are mostly Ukrainian conscripts who probably don’t even want to be there). Unless the US does something to inflame the situation, which is certainly possible, I think he’ll have to stick to his word.
Putin is no saint and obviously is out only for Russia, but that’s reasonable and I just wish we had a president who was only out for the USA.
Why is nobody - except Trump - interested in a negotiated settlement that won’t kill Ukrainians?

Correct, the Ukie war cheerleaders will never understand “ war”,I have been in one. Vlad has been very careful to not destroy the infrastructure unless it was inhabited by Neo Nazi’s. He has the full capability to level water treatment plants, waste sewage facilities, electricity grids,-population centers across Ukraine have been largely left untouched….however, the western arms shipments coming in through the Polish border ( Lviv) are being hit with pin point cruise missiles.
The Ukie war cheerleaders think it is a sign of weakness or losing, contrary, it is a sign of strength.
Vlad is winning, when the Donbass provinces have their Independence fully declared, ( Vlad is encircling the “ Bulge”), the Ukies will have to pull back to the Dniepner. Vlad will have then have secured his stated objectives, ( very few here ever read his clearly defined war speech),and then start negotiations.
Until then, the west will try to equip him to the very last Ukrainian….

Huh? The Ukie Navy was totally destroyed by the first week. The Ukies have no ships to get anything in or out. Vlad has it all blocked. All western arms and men are coming in through Poland, Lviv area and getting whacked. Even our Pentagon state Vlad has been averaging 50 pinpoint strikes a DAY.

The “Bulge” will be closed, in Vlads time…..and there will be no “ big Ukie tank battle” on those plains….they have very few left.
They will then have to retreat back to the Dniepner…..not looking good for yellow and blues, No telling when the Ukies are fully encircled, but they are running out of everything….and a large amount are getting destroyed entering from the Polish border - think Liviv-western MSM says “random ” terror bombings- no, Vlad is taking out the arms/ men/ supplies entering…with alittle help from those Russian Ukie “ spies”, or traitors Zelensky keeps mentioning….non western media makes mention of all the Ukie “traitors “ getting killed.

Well, apparently there’s a nuclear bomb shelter down there and the Russians (unlike nations in the West) kept their sheltes stocked with fresh supplies. The defenders are likely to be there for a long time.
