Russia has demanded Ukrainian forces still fighting to defend the besieged city of Mariupol lay down their weapons. The apparent ultimatum comes as Russia continues its relentless and devastating attack on the southeastern city.
Russian state media Ria reported that "without exception" all "Ukrainian armed units and foreign mercenaries" must exit from 6:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Moscow time (same as local time) "without any weapons and ammunition," citing the Russian Defense Ministry.
An estimated 100,000 people remain in Mariupol and its immediate surroundings, which are reported to be largely under Russian control, with Ukrainian troops confined to pockets of resistance.
Some context: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zekensky late Saturday called the situation in the besieged city of Mariupol "inhuman," saying the situation remained "as severe as possible."
"Russia is deliberately trying to destroy everyone who is there in Mariupol," he said in his latest video address.

No, if Zelensky had surrendered, been kidnapped, or killed - which is what the Russians really wanted - there simply wouldn’t be an independent Ukraine at all. The Russians want a puppet state. Most people, including patriotic Americans, would rather have their country burnt to a crisp than to capitulate and become a vassal/client state for a foreign power. You apparently would greet our conquerors by kissing their feet. I would rather seem them dead. And if the=at means my country has to suffer tremendously to keep its freedom, I can live (or die) with that and have a perfectly clear conscience.
I was told my Mariner on here that Ukraine belongs to Russia, and always has. No declaration of independence or treaties matter otherwise.

I think there’s reason to worry. I have never seen so many conservatives so easily swayed to support an evil cause (the Russian invasion) because of propaganda, ignorance and bad thinking and poor analytical skills. Somebody (Was it Mencken?) said you can never go wrong underestimating the intelligence of the American people. The same thing applies to posters on Free Republic.

DNR said today that they will restore the other plant (where the marines that surrendered were), provide job for everyone who worked on either plant, but will not restore Azovstal.
After the bombing yesterday, it may not be all that repairable....
