Russia has moved its warships away from the Ukrainian coast, a United States defence official said today, after a double missile strike is believed to slammed into the navy's Black Sea flagship and caused it to 'start sinking'.
In a sign the Kremlin may be withdrawing its naval forces out of missile range, the senior official said that Moscow's vessels are now 80 nautical miles from the coast after the Moskva - a Soviet-era Slava class guided missile cruiser - was 'seriously damaged' overnight by a fire and explosion.
Russia's Defence Ministry attempted to downplay the damage to the warship, saying today the fire has been contained. It claimed the vessel remains afloat, will be towed into port, that there is no open fire at the ship anymore and that explosions of the ammunitions have ceased.
However, the US official said the Moskva is still dealing with a fire and is believed to have experienced significant damage

They should never have been within 60nm of the coast in even the BEST of circumstances.
Bizarre.

Just FYI, those large missile tubes can reportedly fire nuclear weapon tipped missiles. There’s no indication whether or not the weapons had nuclear weapons in them. But the thing about nuclear or any weapons, they have to be loaded before you know whether you need them because if you do need them, you may not have enough time to take them from storage to wherever they can be fired.
In the few accidents that we know about for American designs, none of the bombs have ever detonated. But, if a bomb is broken open then the radioactive elements could be exposed and cause death or injury.
I doubt that the Russian ship was destroyed by the Ukrainians, just like I doubt that the 15,000-20,000 dead Russian military personnel were killed by the Ukrainians. Oh, and those tanks and armored vehicles that were destroyed in the war, were not destroyed by the Ukrainians.
All those things were destroyed by mysterious forces from outer space or by ghosts.

They were all feints.

Love it!! PERFECT!!!! This explains the hideously “woke” millenial females in my extended family.
“They should never have been within 60nm of the coast in even the BEST of circumstances.”
The S-300P has a range of only 25 NM.
Kind of hard to intimidate the locals if they can't see your mighty warships.
“But, if a bomb is broken open then the radioactive elements could be exposed and cause death or injury.”
I think you are referring to a dirty bomb which is not a nuclear device.
I guess Ivan will be good on scrap steel for a while.
A failed nuclear device could become a dirty bomb.
“I think you are referring to a dirty bomb which is not a nuclear device.”
Each weapon has an element of refined radioactive material as the cornel that is intended to implode and reach critical mass. While it’s unlikely that this element will reach critical mass without being actually “fired” they are radioactive and therefore dangerous.
why send a skimmer for a subs job??
