Russia threatens to send nuclear weapons to the Baltic Sea if Finland and Sweden join NATO to 'restore the balance' after Putin's Ukraine invasion spectacularly backfired

Russia has warned NATO that if Sweden and Finland joined the military alliance then the Kremlin would have to bolster its nuclear defences in the Baltic.

'There can be no more talk of any nuclear-free status for the Baltic - the balance must be restored,' said Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia's Security Council.

'Naturally, we will have to reinforce these borders. Until today, Russia has not taken such measures and was not going to. If our hand is forced well... take note it wasn't us who proposed this.'

The former president added Russia would 'seriously reinforce its group of ground forces and air defences and deploy significant naval forces in the Gulf of Finland.'

The threat comes after Sweden and Finland edged closer to NATO membership yesterday, and their application bids could be submitted in weeks.

Sweden's prime minister Magdalena Andersson is understood to be eager for the country to join the trans-Atlantic alliance by June, to the fury of Vladimir Putin who invaded Ukraine in part for its desire to join to the pact.

“ If our hand is forced well... take note it wasn’t us who proposed this.’”

Of course it couldn’t be Russia’s fault that any state that previously wasn’t a member of nato would suddenly want to join NATO. Finland and Sweden are clearly the provocateurs here !

For the record, Putin was more democratically elected than Joe Biden.

Man, talk about a non-sequitur. Is Putin serious when he says that their joining NATO alters the balance of power in the Baltic? Our President is senile, but Putin is nuts.

Too funny! Russian Kaliningrad is already armed to the teeth, with both conventional and nuclear weapons.

Fine, let them join.

Put up or shut up though, you want in the club you pay your dues. They join, our portion drops by that amount or they can screw themselves.

Hiding under an umbrella that everyone else has carried because the downpour started doesn’t mean for free.

Putin is beginning to look like hitler in the bunker who was moving around imaginary divisions to defend Germany. He is already taking out anyone who he thinks failed or opposed him. Bad news because hitler let the whole place go down rather then admit defeat.

Threatening Nucs is signing the Russian death warrant

Russia is a like Nigeria, a third world nation with a few large cities.

The GDP of Russia with 146 million people is barely ahead of Australia with only 26 million people. Australia has no significant oil. That means Russia is a very small deal

Nukes are all Putin has. His navy is incompetent. His ground forces are a 1500 klics away in Ukraine and not very successful. His AF has yet to achieve supremacy. But his nuclear forces are present. Threatening to use them is all he has and he is insane enough to do it. In the old CP days the Politburo would have removed him, either to a Black Sea dacha or to a state funeral. But now?????

Bad news because hitler let the whole place go down rather then admit defeat.

And it was a bad day for Germany when Hitler decided he could no longer trust his generals and became hell-bent on running the war himself.

Well if Russia’s nuclear arsenal is like the rest of their military, then half will fail to detonate at all and the other half will hit Russian cities due to a targeting error.
