Illinois Democrats join Biden in taking aim at specter of elusive ‘ghost guns’ (barf alert)

Illinois is poised to become the first state in the Midwest to ban “ghost guns,” as Democrats respond to election-year pressure to curb violent crime and President Joe Biden wages a national war on the “do-it-yourself” firearms.

Holding up a ghost gun in the White House Rose Garden on Monday and warning that “anyone” can make a gun, Biden said “a domestic abuser can go from a gun kit to a gun in as little as 30 minutes.”

Sitting in the audience was Chicago Police Supt. David Brown, whose department is fighting its own battle against the easy-to-assemble but hard-to-trace firearms.

Biden and the U.S Justice Department announced a rule that makes it illegal for businesses to manufacture the gun kits without a serial number and for licensed gun dealers to sell them without a background check.

The federal action comes just days after Illinois Democrats — with no GOP votes — passed legislation to outlaw ghost guns in the waning hours of the legislative session late last week.

Gee..., why don't they actually put criminals carrying or using guns to commit crimes in prison! Think that might work?

Don’t talk about the communists being soft on criminals, early release, no bail, etc.

Talk about ghosts....spooky stuff that will save your pathetic campaign against those fascist Republicans! Put them on the defensive by asking what will they do about these ghosts!!!

Most Republicans will fold like a cheap camera under such a question. A few will fight back and tell the communists that high crime is their fault for defunding police and that ghost stories are just a distraction from your decades of failures.

I have a book called “Improvised Munitions Handbook” published by the Army in 1969 and was given to Special Forces, it gives precise details on how to Build a Ghost Gun with common parts found in any and every Hardware Store in America.

I assume Home Depot and Lowes will be required to put Serial Numbers on 3/4 inch and 3/8 inch steel pipe since they are integral parts of a Shotgun and .45 caliber Ghost Guns contained in the ARMY field manual

Where can I get one of these “gun kits”? Seems like it would be a nice DIY project for a weekend...

Yeah, if you have a precision machine shop and skills honed over several years. Knock one out in an afternoon.

....as a gun enthusiast myself, I was thinking the same thing....only item I believe I would need and use is a drill press...I read somewhere that these mis-named “ghost guns” account for only a small fraction of guns used in crimes...the vast majority of such guns were found to have been stolen from rightful owners.....

Usually I post every fact why guns aren’t the problem, they are and their policies. But I won’t because I’m simply not going to comply…you can’t comply your way to freedom.

warning that “anyone” can make a gun

Not true at all. You still need the tools, parts, skills and patience. And there is no way someone could do a full build from an 80% lower in 30 minutes.

But "anyone" can make a knife, bow, club, slingshot, nun-chucks, blackjack, dart, bolas, etc.

Yeah, if you have a precision machine shop and skills honed over several years. Knock one out in an afternoon.

I don't have all the precision machine tools or skills. It is easier to buy a serialized AR lower. It takes about 20 minutes to populate the lower from a lower parts kit and a few special tools e.g. roll punches and jigs for installing the takedown pin without launching the spring/detent across the room. A proper torque wrench for the barrel nut, muzzle device and buffer nut helps too. A set of go/no go chamber gauges is good practice to make sure the barrel/bolt are a good match and in tolerance.

The typical street criminal has none of those things. It is far easier to purchase a stolen gun from a street thug. If they want the serial number gone, it doesn't take much skill to file it off. At that point, it is just as "untraceable" as one manufactured from an 80% lower.
