DENVER (AP) — The nonprofit that distributed most of the $350 million in donations from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to election offices in 2020 said Monday that it won’t disburse similar donations this year after backlash from conservatives suspicious that the contributions tilted the outcome of the presidential race toward Joe Biden.
Instead, the Center for Technology and Civic Life is launching a different program. Dubbed the U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence, the $80-million, five-year effort is intended to create a network for the nation’s thousands of local election officials, who can apply for aid to improve their technology and processes.
The 2020 effort by Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, amid the COVID-19 pandemic fueled conservative anger and distrust of the presidential election outcome. At least eight GOP-controlled states passed laws last year banning private donations to election offices in reaction to Zuckerberg’s donations. Suspicion that the contributions — routinely referred to as “Zuckerbucks” by conservatives — helped Biden, a Democrat, has become a staple among those who believe in former President Donald Trump’s election lies.

So now they’ll make an encrypted network so that no one can catch them
We didn’t do anything wrong and we won’t do it again. Yeah, right.
More likely Zuk knows it won’t save the RATS this time.
He is going to save it for ‘24 if things improve for them.
We all know what they did so now they don’t have to operate in secrecy!
Just changing the name and changing the way it works amounts to doing the exact same thing. They must think that we are really stupid.
Zuckerberg thinks he’s so much more clever than his customers.

How can this be legal?
I don’t understand how an election can even use proprietary software.
Oh good, they changed the name. Of course it won’t be a DNC laundry for Zuckerbucks.
I’m sure the money will be distributed evenly , politically speaking😂
We’re not suspicious, we know that money was used to steal the election.
Zuckerberg’s money really did throw the whole election
I don’t know which line is funnier - they won’t do it again, or they are reacting to backlash from conservatives.
They’ll just have to be a little more careful this time around.
His “money” may not be there - but that’s not the problem - the systemic access that allowed such direct infiltration and manipulation must be shut down.
The body of the article contradicts the headline. Zuck is still very much in the business of buying elections; he just wants to be more convert about it.
Zuckerberg has already donated about 60 million to stymie the investigation of he use of money he put into the 2020 election.
If you go to the page of the ‘Center for Technology and Civic Life’ and look under Careers and pull up their job application you will see that the ‘Pronouns’ field is mandatory. I wonder what type of person they are interested in recruiting.
That’s typical of what they do and have done...for decades.
CHANGE THE NAME, CHANGE THE MESSAGE, CHANGE THE SHORTS AND COME BACK ALL REFRESHED.
If that works again, in any election, WE SHOULD BE ARRESTED...FOR BEING STUPID.
It may have, and probably did tilt some of the down-ticket races, but the presidential race was changed using voter fraud. (IMO, mail-in voting was the major source of the fraud.)
not because of the goodness of zuckerberg’s heart as AP claims, but because a whole slew of states subsequently outlawed private funding of election offices ...
