Mike Gibbons, the millionaire investment banker running for the United States Senate in Ohio’s Republican primary, says middle class Americans are “not really paying any kind of a fair share” in federal income taxes, a newly surfaced video reveals.

How many Americans of that 61% are minors with no income? How many are adults with less than taxable income? How many are financially "middle class"? What fraction of the super rich (>$10M/yr) Americans pay no income tax?
JD Vance is our best candidate to shake up the GOP.
He should say that America’s poor class is not paying their fair share of taxes because... they’re not!
I’m looking at paying $5,500 this year. That’s on top of my property and school taxes. I think the man from Ohio may want to come out of the political closet and join his friends on the Left.
True or not it was very poor judgement to say this and then run for office in this day and age.
If the top 10% are paying 70% of the taxes, then he is mathematically correct. We’d have to see the entire context to be able to evaluate what he is saying.
Because we paid income tax in 2020 and we are not rich.
So why are they saying it.
Well, it has to do with the way they figured it.
If you collected unemployment, even though it is a taxable income, they deducted that amount from your tax payment.
If you got a stimulus check, even through it was unasked for, they deducted it from your tax payment.
So you need to look at things a little closer.
Examine the parameters of what ever numbers they are throwing at you.
You can make numbers say anything if you arrange them right.
*Stick a fork in him.* So now you know. 2-3 Penn. candidates ditto. This is the senate.
*Tax The Poor!*We need to have a national sales tax.*
My plan is better. National(FAIR)Tax with a 1% income tax for everyone. Gut departments and divide the 1st-year savings amongst the 61% non-payers. The 1% rate can be used as a guideline for compensation-poor getting the most.
The 1% income tax can then wither on the vine while the 17th amendment gets axed.
No sales tax on IRA investments-Allow anyone to contribute to family IRA’s.
I like Mandel but he was unable to dislodge Sherrod Brown in 2012. between him and Vance I easily lean Vance as he is outside the mainstream of the Ohio GOP and therefore more like Ted Cruz and Rand Paul, willing to stand up to McConnell when needed.
61% in 2020, 57% in 2021.
No Federal taxes, yet they are allowed to vote in federal elections.
I say NO REPRESENTATION without TAXATION.
And the millions of illegals that Biden invited to flood across our borders are funded by??
“...the rich are paying for everything currently if 61% are paying nothing.”
I didn’t know I was rich, at least not in terms of money. You might say I’m rich in other ways.
They clearly cut the video without giving context. As a mathematical equation, he is correct.
My guess is that he goes on to say that spending should be reduced as should be taxes, but this could be purely political post by Breitbart. Who knows?
I do know that Josh Mandel lost badly to Sherrod Brown in a 2012 senate race, that Josh Mandel dropped out at the last minute against sherrod brown in 2018, leaving his replacement about 5 weeks to mount a campaign. So, Mandel, who is a loser and a quitter, is running for Senate again.
Personally, I think he’s a plant, a systemite, and that he’s in it to lose it.
You’re absolutely right with regard to the federal individual income tax, and so is Gibbons. Whatever the “middle class” is, it certainly isn’t paying its fair share if the median American is paying no income tax at all.
However, while Medicare and Social Security taxes are not the taxes he was referring to, let’s call it what is is: Medicare and Social Security are welfare schemes funded by taxes, not “insurance plans.” And the taxes are plainly a form of income tax.
Hey...Mike! You are a RINO. I’m paying my fair share, and more. You don’t have a worry in the world with your money.
The rest of us still need to budget, monitor spending, and try to make plans around the economic crap the politicos rain down on us.
Go away, idiot.
‘Middle Class Not Really Paying … Fair Share’ in Taxes
He just told us he doesn’t want to win. WHAT a jerk
He’s totally right, of course. Unfortunately, this thread shows that a large part of the “right” has adopted the Democrats’ thinking on progressive taxation.
No, He is wrong.
I am one of those people who is paying for the pony that somebody else is riding.
Government is an unstoppable engine of theft. The major political arguments are over who gets to run the machinery and pass out the swag to their friends.
To Hell with all of them.
