With all the ‘Wag the Dog’ Kabuki theater on both sides, as far as I know, the missile could have been a counterfeit from Luxembourg.
Both sides are known to lie. It might have been a false flag committed by the Ukraine against itself in order to blame Russia, but, Russia might well have collected missile fragments, especially including those with the serial numbers still conveniently legible, from Ukrainian attacks on its soil, and placed - and then conveniently “found” - those fragments in the train station after the attack. There is no good evidentiary chain of custody in military attacks, and both sides have strong incentives to lie.
By way of example, note that the FBI lied for 6 years that they never used any pyrotechnic devices during the Waco massacre (1993), but then admitted that they had. They also “lost” the door they claimed was “bowed out” by Davidians firing outwards, and they also claimed that the said spent pyrotechnic devices were actually illegal silencers possessed and used by the Davidians, partially justifying the attack.
It was American planes that crashed into the World Trade Center on 9-11.

Could have been made in Ukraine, sold to Russia who sent it back. Russia was getting a lot of military equipment made for them in the Ukraine.
There is not need to create false Russian attacks against civilians. They are real and documented.
As an aside the Brits burned cities to the ground in WWII with great civilian casualties in fire raids, as we did in Japan with atomic bombs and our fire raids. It worked. That is what war is. My comment is not justification of such. It is just a comment on the reality of war. It is ugly. You kill your enemy and all that support him. It is not pretty.
War is bad, but sometimes the alternative is worse.
This was my thought the first time I saw news reports about the missile strike. Interesting that it might be true.
The Ukrainians have been firing tons of missiles that they got from the Russians, bottom line ... does anyone believe the Ukrainians did this?
You are going to need alot more evidence than a serial number on a missile.
