Ukraine accuses Moscow of forcibly deporting over 400,000 people to Russia

Ukraine accused Moscow on Thursday of forcibly relocating hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians from their besieged homes to Russia, where officials believe many will be held as “hostages” to negotiate a surrender from Kyiv.

Lyudmyla Denisova, Ukraine’s ombudsperson, said 402,000 people – including 84,000 children – have been deported against their will.

Russia gave nearly identical figures of those that have been relocated, though claimed that the people wanted to leave. Russian Col. Gen. Mikhail Mizintsev on Thursday said that the roughly 400,000 people evacuated to Russia since the invasion began were from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in eastern Ukraine, which are predominantly Russian-speaking and have close cultural ties with Moscow.

Russian authorities said they are providing accommodations and dispensing payments to the evacuees.

Donetsk Region Gov. Pavlo Kyrylenko, however, claimed that “people are being forcibly moved into the territory of the aggressor state.”

Denisova said those removed by Russian troops included a 92-year-old woman in Mariupol who was forced to go to Taganrog in southern Russia.

“...forcibly relocating hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians from their besieged homes to Russia...”

The logistics alone are mind-boggling.

When they let western reporters into the ‘refugee camps’ in Russia to freely interview the 400,000 detainees, I mean refugees, to confirm your theory, get back to me.

I wish I had the faith you have in "western reporters." That said, please focus on our Southern border. You Biden Republicans are going to get a lot of American's killed by ignoring our "refuge camps" in countless Texas border cities.

Just to understand, if California wanted to succeed and become part of mexifornia, you would let it? All joking about California aside, such a decision would be suicidal for the government that allowed it and for the nation as a whole.

Doesn’t have to be just western reporters. Could include NGOs or UN, but unhindered, uncensored interviews with anyone of their choosing. But Putin won’t allow that, will he. Which should make one ask why.

As for the southern border, nothing pisses me off cmore that watching what Biden has done in his one year since the Trump policies. But when you say ‘focus’, do what? Nothing I can do from where I am but watch and wait. And ammo up for the bad days that may be ahead.

But there are threads for that. Bitching about it on every Ukraine thread is like having to put up with the junk mail in my mailbox. I can’t make it stop coming, but I wish it would.

But when you say ‘focus’, do what?

Call your elected jerks, volunteer at a polling booth, alert your neighbors and friends to the tsunami of human sludge that is coming next month. You can bet your small part of America will be affected adversely with the arrival of more than 3,000,000 people by next Fall. They will tilt the election, cause us to pay more taxes and bring zero work ethic to our nation. To the clown show that has their attention affixed to central Europe, they are a lost cause. You can do better, but not at all sure if you can break away from the Zalensskkkyy Cult.

Why? You still wouldn't believe it.

Anyhow, here's refugees from Ukraine talking to reporters in Russia. I'm sure you'll say they were coerced.

“Russia says they have ‘relocated’ 400,000 Ukraine’s that wanted to leave. So if they wanted to leave, why didn’t they immigrate to Russia before the war?”

I find this most odd myself. Why was this done if it is true. Their is something wrong with this story.

That’s a silly argument. Ask me ‘why’ AFTER Putin allows for free press to present a case. A YouTube of a few of the 400,000 taken in Russia by Russian press where there is a law against speaking out against the government is not proof of anything. Sheesh, people here say we can’t believe our own press (and I get that) but they will swallow a known govt press from that same govt that invaded Ukraine.

I would imagine this 400,000 number includes many who don’t mind being yanked out of eastern conflict zones into safer locations in mother Russia, and some who are actually there against their will (probably from places like Kharkiv where independence from Ukraine is less popular and wouldn’t get a majority of votes). Perhaps the Russians did this to have pawns, or perhaps they didn’t want the civilian casualty totals to rise as much but had no safe place inside Ukraine to move the civilians.

Disclaimer — not a big Putin fan, and think the “special operation” is an illegal incursion into a sovereign state. But at the end of the day I would imagine this will turn into something more complicated, just like everything else here.

The only way out of this is to give Putin meaningful guarantees of Ukrainian neutrality and reinforce earlier agreements about what limitations there would be on NATO in eastern Europe. As distasteful as it may be to deal with this guy, we all know that our own national governments are a shabby collection of frauds, impostors and scoundrels, so in no really good position to lecture even Putin (or Xi for that matter). There is only one country in Europe with a sensible government and that is Hungary. A few others are so-so (Sweden, Finland, some of the Baltics, Poland, Slovakia).

You should save your childish outburst for the people who are over running our border, and those allowing it. Hint...it isn’t Putin.
