Very often, when companies go woke, it turns out that the wokeness is a cover for changing market forces. That is, they're not alienating traditional demographics; they're reflecting that their money is coming from new demographics. When it comes to Hollywood and the NBA, for example, the big bucks are coming from China, not America. And when it comes to Disney, the main profit center isn't children; it's young adults who, Peter Pan–like, refuse to grow up.
The brilliant Daniel Greenfield makes this point in an article entitled "Disney's Business Model is Turning Kids into Dysfunctional Adults: Its customer base isn't kids. It's messed up adults." Greenfield, as always, has done the research, and, in the case of Disney, he points to the fact that Disney's most fanatic consumers are in the over 18 demographic:
Disney isn't for kids anymore. Its movie business is dominated by Marvel blockbusters. Half of Disney+ subscribers, its big bet on the home streaming future, are adults with no children. What about the theme parks?
60% of Disneyland visitors were adults with no children. Only 36.7% of Disney World visitors had children under 18. The largest demographic for the theme parks, like the movies, are millennials. They are also members of the fandoms who are likeliest to spend money on licensed merchandise, and on toys and movie tie-ins that are Disney's bread and butter.
And Disney is rapidly adapting with theme parks and resorts that emphasize its Marvel and Star Wars properties more than classic fare. Its Galactic Starcruiser hotel, aimed at Star Wars fans, costs $4,809 for two adults. Why bother with kid stuff when you can sell $13 beers?

If we all think about the “Disney thing,” we all have to admit that it has always targeted people with money in their pockets hoping that the “wonder” of Disney would be passed on to future generations.
Mrs. Bat just reminded me of the “Gay Days” deal which was started by the LGBTQ crowd. It wasn’t encouraged by Disney at first but was a money maker and now it’s full throttle to open the parks to the queer bunch. Their money is as good as that from any other source.
Good grief.
What if what’s going on is Disney is just not appealing to kids anymore like it used to. What if the adults going to the park are just reminiscing about when they went there as kids with their families?
I hope it’s that and not the molester theory. Else, the fireballs are coming soon.
I know. Imagine the amount of damage a foreign bad actor could do if they got control of something like that.
“No - it’s the exorbitant ticket fees they charge the parents. Kids have no money.”
More to the point families have no money. A middle class family from Iowa used to be the core demographic for almost all companies. But those folk have no disposable income anymore. Maybe they can scrape together $10K a year for fun.
A childless couple of 30 year olds in San Francisco or New York can easily have $100K per year of disposable income to play with. Apple, Tesla, Disney have all made their fortunes targeting this group.
But will those NYers et al go to Dizzyland? Pay that yearly 10K fee?
Those numbers are a little hard to believe.. 60% of amusement park visitors are adults without children?
“60% of Disneyland visitors were adults with no children.”
That’s from the Frontpage article by Daniel Greenfield. 60%. Sure, there are a few perverts on the make in that number, but the bulk of it is the residue of a failed culture. Why are they still spending time and resources on these childish things? Why don’t they have children?
If they had children, they could vicariously enjoy some of those things through them. I re-enjoyed some things from childhood when my kids were little, and I expect to do so again with grandchildren. I cannot imagine how broken an “adult person” must be to go to Disney under any other circumstances. It’s like these 45 year old bugmen who get super over excited about the next light saber battle in Star Wars. Sick culture.
Disney the company outgrew children as a target audience. Maybe they had to for profit growth.
That’s alright, me and my family will go to Dollywood next time, I’ll miss Epcot but...
“Why are they still spending time and resources on these childish things? Why don’t they have children?”
The government is today everyone’s parent. Being a child is fun. If you never have to take responsibility because the gov’t is looking after you, why bother to grow up?
Keep going to Disney, playing with Lego, and watching superhero films in your 30s and 40s. That is where our culture is.
Case in point:
Britney Spears
Go to the White House if you want to see Goofy and Dumbo.
Disney the company outgrew children as a target audience. Maybe they had to for profit growth. Millennials are very self involved and the latest generation of parents, birthing people, baby daddies/baby mommas or whatever.
Yep. Consume product. Get excited for next product, all supplied by companies like Disney and the NFL, and the federal government. It all seems rather fragile, like it might be failing before our eyes. How are food shortages going to impact this spoiled populace? Lawlessness is already the norm in many places. Nearly all of the societal poison we see is only possible in a very rich environment. There’s probably a reason that nobody was too worried about trannies during the Great Depression.
STOP going to see Disney movies. STOP buying Disney DVDs and STOP streaming Disney, period.
When I was a kid, I never liked Disney. Still don’t.
Given a choice between Micky Mouse and Daffy Duck, I would always choose Daffy.
Fifty five years ago the “characters” at Disneyland were trying to “cop a feel” on many of the young girls visiting there.
I understand and agree with what you are saying, it still seems that 60% is way too high, but I could be wrong.
I really hope that number is way too high.
Given a choice between Micky Mouse and Daffy Duck,
I would always choose Daffy.
Nothing wrong with that as some people are just Daffy.
Have a nice day.
