I’d expect every subterranean Chinese territorial claim with respect to the region to eventually emerge. Without a strong Russia, China could triple in land area by venturing into and annexing the former Russian empire east of the Urals. And that’s not counting Mongolia, which immediately becomes a Chinese province.
The Russians are as annoying as heck, but they are filling a power vacuum in much the same way that the Brits and the French occupied power vacuums in the Orient until Eisenhower sabotaged their efforts to hold on to their colonial possessions with his Suez Canal stunt, whereupon they ditched them and the military capacity they maintained to hold on to those possessions in their entirety.
