Air strikes hit Ukraine's strategic port Odessa

Odessa (Ukraine) (AFP) – Air strikes rocked Ukraine's strategic Black Sea port of Odessa early Sunday, AFP reporters said, but there were no casualties, according to the army.

The Russian defence ministry confirmed the strike.

"This morning, high-precision sea and air-based missiles destroyed an oil refinery and three storage facilities for fuel and lubricants near the city of Odessa, from which fuel was supplied to a group of Ukrainian troops in the direction of Mykolaiv," it said.

At least three huge columns of black smoke and flames rose into the sky over an industrial zone.

The rocket attacks came as Russian forces and appeared to be withdrawing from the country's north after Kyiv warned that Moscow was trying to consolidate troops in the south.

Despite the rocket attacks, there were no casualties, said officer Vladislav Nazarov in a statement from the southern regional command that reiterated a ban on publishing the exact sites under fire or the extent of damage.

It's odd that all refineries weren't destroyed in the first days of the war.

Also that the bridges over the Dnieper are still standing north of Kherson.

Russians are claiming that fuel production in Ukraine is shut down, Ukrainian armies won’t be able to maneuver.

This is pure propaganda. The Russians have used all their missiles and bombs, their equipment is old and rusty, the troops are untrained, they are withdrawing and headed for defeat, oh and Putin is insane and sanctions are destroying their economy.

I suspect Russia would prefer to keep such things intact, if at all possible. Destroying Ukrainian infrastructure isn’t the end goal. Surrender is.

The Russians will win, but will it advance them as a country?
They are paying a hell of a price for this “victory”

They are losing the public relations war. But militarily, how can they lose?

They are losing the public relations war

Perhaps, but part of that is the propaganda war. The big losers in the propaganda war are Z, the democrats, and the MSM because all they do is lie and pretend that we don't know how corrupt they and the Biden's are. So I believe not a single word I here from the Western anything.

So many moving parts in this skirmish. I take you think the Russians are justified in this invasion?

Between Russia, the global reset crowd and the corrupt democrats using tapayer funds "for Ukraine" as their personal get rich quick piggy bank, I am not taking sides. If there is plenty of moral wrong on the Russian side there is plenty of moral corruption on the other side.

My actual view is that this crack-up was from a geostrategic or geopolitical perspective inevitable. The global financial empire was pushing ever relentlessly east towards the Russian border, and the Russians are paranoid about foreign invasion from the North, South, East and West. They think they have their own culture and their own ways. We kept thinking what they really wanted was a MickeyDs in every neighborhood.

I am a realist. Reality sucks. It's one of those places that have always been a mess because they are borderlands to competing geopolitical forces. My other view is that it is long past time that the US put its resources into our own people's interests and stop trying to become an Asian land power. It's a role that sucks. We are watching how messy it is before our eyes. I can't say it's not our circus because our clowns helped organize the mess and sold tickets.

There is a long history of events leading to this war and the US is not blameless.

Despite the rocket attacks, there were no casualties

Likely because the NATO AWACS orbiting in Poland near the Moldova border gave them warning early enough to get their people clear.

Pretty much agree with your assessment. As far as meddling with world affairs we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t. I sure hope this thing ends soon. If it spreads, things could get out of hand fast. I think I see the US going in an isolationist direction. We can produce our own energy and food so I think we’ll be OK, our debt on the other hand is a problem I don’t see an answer for.

Russia will not win. The Afghan war should have taught them that they will never control the Ukraine. They will be sniped and roadsides bombed forever in Ukraine. Eventually that will migrate into Mother Russia as well.

Many young men will lose their life because of the goals of some old decrepit man. (Putin).

No doubt a real possibility. I wouldn’t bet against it at this point. Time will tell. We(US) didn’t prevail in several of our last adventures.

The war has taken a new turn. Putin is now seeking vindicative destruction of as much as he can in Ukraine. He sees Mother Russia is now on life support and may not actually survive his misguided efforts. Thus he is getting in as many destructive licks as he can while he can.

The Russian economy must be destroyed and then rebuilt by those who can take a slice off the top for Ukranian reparations. EXXON, Shell, Total, and BP will combine to form a consortium to run the whole Russian oil business and take 15% of the revenue to rebuild Ukraine.

Oh....... and then there are the rumors. Putin has or is maybe recurring from thyroid cancer. He is turning 70. He sees the mortality handwriting on the wall
