Two reports say that the Motion Picture Academy lied on Thursday by claiming Will Smith was asked to leave the basement-rated Oscar telecast after his unprovoked assault on Chris Rock.
Oh, my, yes… This scandal just got a whole lot more delicious.
Right now, the entertainment community is furious at the Academy for not doing anything after Smith assaulted a comedian for telling a joke. In front of the whole world, Smith was not only allowed to stroll onto the stage and smack Rock; he was allowed to remain in his seat afterward. What’s more, he was handed an Oscar 40 minutes later and enjoyed two standing ovations.
Even by Hollywood standards, this is outrageous.
These pathetic tweets from Oscar night sum up just how badly the Academy bungled this:
You can’t tweet “The academy does not condone violence in any form” and also congratulate the violence lol. pic.twitter.com/FTi8Jp2Mqk

But as the outrage grew over the ensuing days, not only over Smith’s thuggish and entitled behavior but the Academy’s morally illiterate response, the Academy released a statement claiming Will Smith had, in fact, been asked to leave but refused to do so. That was the big news Wednesday. That was the Academy’s attempt at damage control…
Things unfolded in a way we could not have anticipated. While we would like to clarify that Mr. Smith was asked to leave the ceremony and refused, we also recognize we could have handled the situation differently.
Well, now we’re hearing from two separate sources that the Academy lied about asking Smith to leave, which is not at all surprising.

"Will Smith was NEVER asked to leave the Oscars after he slapped Chris Rock. In fact, the opposite is true — he was told by the producer of the show he could stay … this according to sources with direct knowledge who were present."
Yet more evidence it was all staged.
Calling it an “Academy” is itself a lie. LOL
Pray tell, do say more.
I knew it was BS when it was reported that they went through his agent.
“Look, squirrel!” ended up being a pack of them.
Who cares?
No, it isn’t. It’s about them worrying about all the lawsuits that are going to fly over this.
The use of the word ‘manic’ by someone on the Board who had originally defended Smith tells me that perhaps the Smith PR people are going to try to spin this that he is bipolar and was having an episode so to save his reputation he will go into a facility..depends on how bad this gets.
Packer is not addressing the leak from someone close to him that he did NOT tell Smith he could stay.
Meanwhile, Chris Rock is actually disabled. He has some kind of neurological disorder. Slapping him upside the head may have caused him unknown damage to an already existing problem. He has a couple of years to get this all sorted out to sue Will.
i believe Will Smith is actually bi polar- explains alot.
This time next week Slappy Smith will come out as gay.
More, “It was all show business/make believe & not for real!
When he was slapped, his jaw was crooked for a bit while he was up on stage.
He was hit HARD.
I hope Will gets his comeuppance.
And that freak kid of his posting ‘And that’s how we do it’ needs to stfu.
If you read this it isn’t about that it was staged. It clearly was not staged. The real story here is why they let him stay and accept the award and what they’re going to do about it. Which the whole time is they’ll let it happen cause it was a black guy.
It was in the script.
As if anything that happens on network TV is “reality.”
“the Academy released a statement claiming Will Smith had, in fact, been asked to leave but refused to do so”
Oh sure, like people are “asked to leave” venues all the time and can just refuse and nothing happens. They don’t have security guards, or phones which would allow them to call the police, so what can they do???
Think about the potential of what could happen.
A star is acting manic. He commits a bizarre battery on stage to be seen by the whole world.
He is asked to leave. He says he is not going.
I can see where they were worried about a scene like this out side of the Chris Rock show...only with a dude in a tux

And what if he didn’t win the award and decided to really go crazy.
this was a volatile situation that they had never encountered before and surely hadn’t planned for. It’s not the same as some seat filler charging the stage...who would have been man handled out.
I feel sorry for Rock. He has a disability. He had tears in his eyes at the opening of his show. I have no doubt lawyers are all over this in trying to find the best way to handle it and not torpedo Rock’s career.
Seeing a lot of claims that Scientologists slap people this way. The leader supposedly has done it often
Of course it was not staged. The fact that these actors are mentally ill and Hollywood and their shows are dysfunctional actually makes it believable, but they are not that cunning to stage anything, they can't even have an actor handle a pistol without creating a mess.
I find this to be the funniest story for this year...
Is there any actual footage of Will’s hand touching Chris?
I’ve only seen a video from behind Will’s back so I’m not sure if he actually hit or just made a hollywood smack sound and Chris react acted.
“try to spin this that he is bipolar”
Yes, he has a common variant of the condition, known as “ghettoitis”.
