I have some friends in Sweden. Sweden is not aligned with NATO but there are many now who debate whether they should join. Some fear joining NATO would provoke Russia, others fear not joining NATO leaves them defenseless.

Sweden has been sort of the Inspector Clouseau of Europe for many decades - always on the hunt for Russian Submarines but almost never seem to find one.

Seems counterproductive to threaten Sweden like this. NATO existed to counter an expansionist USSR. If Russia is going to threaten nuclear attacks then this only breathes new life into NATO. As usual Russia continues it’s centuries old foreign policies which are similar to a bull in a china shop.

I agree, why put nukes on a fighter? Bomber maybe.

Besides too much risk in losing the nukes if you fly over other nations.

‘Putin had threatened military action if Sweden or Finland joined NATO”

Let’s not be too critical of Putin, there must be bio-labs in Sweden, Finland that he’s saving us from.

I don’t get it, how they claim they know they had nukes on 2 planes? Is it really that easy to tell?

Exactly. Sounds like Russian disinformation. They’d probably be afraid the nuke would fall off the airplane.

Could be Russian disinformation, but it is more likely to be the Waily Fail being the Waily Fail. They’ve generated crap worse than this for decades.

“I agree, why put nukes on a fighter? Bomber maybe.”

I believe the article said the alleged nukes were on the two attack aircraft, not on the fighters.

“Air space, or ADIZ?”

The ADIZ would probably begin at Kaliningrad’s Baltic shoreline (i.e., once the planes were wheels up, they’d be within the ADIZ; if not Sweden’s, then Poland’s or Lithuania’s; but I assume Sweden’s ADIZ includes the entire Baltic Sea). I think they said the aircraft flew over a Swedish island in the Baltic Sea, so that would be Swedish air space.

Modern nukes are not that easy to detect.
After about 20ft plutonium is hard to measure. Especially if it’s wrapped in a heavy metal.
