Washington state school district will encourage teachers to consider students' race when dishing out punishments: Critics say new policy will result in harsher punishments for white students

A school district in Washington state has passed a new policy that critics say encourages administrators to factor in race when disciplining students.

The Clover Park School District board approved the new policy on a 3-2 vote on March 14, over the objections of board members who expressed concerns that it was ill-conceived.

The district in the suburbs of Tacoma will now use 'culturally responsive discipline' that encourages school staff to impose disciplinary policies that 'may be adapted to individual student needs in a culturally responsive manner.'

Critics say the new approach is in effect a race-based disciplinary policy that will encourage harsher or lighter punishments based on a student's race, with white students being disciplined more severely.

But the district insists that it is following a state law passed in 2021 that compels districts to 'align with Cultural Competency, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion standards.' ***

I knew a black teacher who was tougher on blacks. His expectation was that black kids knew they would get in trouble because they were open about breaking the rules. He told them their actions would get them thrown out of school when they were caught by someone who had no choice but to punish. In a way, this was racist but it also made sense. This was in CA in 1970’s.

In the hospital I work at in southern NJ, before the Covid thing we had to attend one of these “Diversity & Inclusion seminars and I'm struggling not only to stay awake but to keep from going back as this Black woman( the ‘’Diversity & Inclusion’’ types always seem to be ‘’women of color)

So I interrupted her and said '' Madame, for almost two hours now you've been going on about how we're all equal and diversity is our strength. So I asked her, "If we're all equal then how is diversity our strength?'' The woman totally ignored the question.

This has already happened in many places after a fashion. Home schools, parochial schools and home schools provide a refuge for those who wish to flee the chaos in many schools.

The city of St. Louis is 44% white, and 44% black, yet the St. Louis School District is 78% black and 13% white. Did white people stop having kids? No they found alternatives. A big problem is that the city school district finds it very difficult to get bond issues passed (because of racism, of course) and the district’s buildings are falling into neglect. Then some judge will order the tax rate raised because crappy schools in a black majority district can only be due to racism and the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment requires remediation.

There is no such thing as white guilt. There is only apathy (go along to get along) among most non-blacks and aggressive Marxist ideology among the rest.

Not in Washington state. Most of the people throughout the state except in King County, Seattle, and a large group in Pierce County, Tacoma, are conservative. But the voting size of these two more than liberal strongholds outruns the rest of the entire state. So everyone has to listen to these idiots and follow rules signed in by county and state office holders.

But if the amount of anything in school is going to be controlled by race, then they will have to create a level of everything to balance the diversity. To include trying to conceive a way to use this effort within the Constitution which guarantees equal protection under the law. 14th amendment.

Harsher punishment for white students?

Nothing new about that. Whites have always been held to a higher standard, and have always faced higher degrees of punishment when we fail.

Blacks on the other hand are free to screw up without fear of punishment.

All of the students in my second period class are taking the state-mandated competency tests, so I have a little time to respond.

First, as someone in the trenches, the problems with public education are vastly understated. I retire next year.

Here’s my best guess about what will really happen with the Washington state discipline guidelines.

White students will not be punished more. That requires paperwork and adherence to the code of conduct, which means time, effort, and wading through pages of pseudolegalistic language designed to describe every contingency, but which actually obfuscates each incident and allows students, parents, and teacher to nitpick every occurrence to find a way around the rules. What will probably happen is that all students will be punished less, with the nonwhite students learning quickly to shout empty accusations of racism whenever they’re caught doing something wrong, and the white students learning that they’re part of an underclass targeted for harassment based on race.

The deterioration of the education system will speed up as bad behavior makes learning impossible, (the remaining) good teachers quit in droves, and students come out even less prepared for adult life.
