An oil and gas prices expert warned that California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s plan to give out free gas cards will drive up prices and inflation even higher.

Newsom turned heads on Thursday when he announced his proposal for $400 gas rebate cards to be given to Golden State motorists to offset the skyrocketing gas prices.

Patrick De Haan — who runs the gas price-monitoring service GasBuddy — was quick to express this concern, tweeting several times about how bad of an idea Newsom proposed

Progressive ideas are always bad. That’s because they don’t understand anything.

Or sometimes because they do.

...free gas cards...

Really? No one anywhere will see higher taxes or any kind of money change hands with these cards. If the cards are free, then gas must be free in CA. And here I thought they had the highest gas prices in the US. Did I just hear the words "abracadabra" mumbled somewhere?

A good way to get rid of them is to strictly enforce them. The same sort of thing happened with the 18th Amendment/Volstead Act.

Economics to liberals is like particle physics to the average person. Very complex and difficult to understand.

And where exactly is this “free” gas money coming from? To think Newsom once ran on a campaign of fiscal responsibility. Even Jerry Brown has told Newsom to lay off the bribes, er, government spending!

You know you’re in trouble when your fellow Rats are criticizing you.

Throw money at things and regulate them. Good call.

Not to mention government doesn't have money. They only confiscate it from you and give you back twenty cents on the dollar. Anything above the twenty cents is borrowed from your children.

Yep...burn it down as it is and “build back better”.....you don’t think that slogan was an accident do you?

They’re telling us what they are going to do and no one believes it.

I don’t support the Gas Cards, but I think this guy is being
somewhat absurd in his presentation.

People have already spent a lot more on gas than they
generally have, and they still have to got to work, pick
up the kids, go grocery shopping, and other things.

These cards aren’t going to cause people to go on long trips
or purchase a lot more gas. They will simply allow folks to
pay a little less for the gas they already have to buy.

If people get the card, and have to drive a lot, I think
they’ll try to stretch the value of the card as far as they
can.

I don’t think they’ll simply go out and buy more gas to use
recreationally.

Newsome’s thinking is if they lower the gas tax, the greedy oil companies will just keep the money as profit, won’t pass it along.

His thinking, not mine.

For $29 billion, the state could build a few reservoirs, build two nuke plants, and pave the crappy roads.

I thought gas was bad for the environment? And here you go giving away money so people can buy it.

These people need to be lined up against a wall with a cigarette in their mouth.
