WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell announced Thursday that he will vote against confirming Ketanji Brown Jackson, saying he “cannot and will not” support the groundbreaking nominee for a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court.
While McConnell’s opposition was not unexpected and Jackson’s confirmation is still on track, his declaration coming only hours after the Senate Judiciary Committee wrapped up four days of hearings probably will lead many fellow Republicans to follow suit.
Democrats can confirm Jackson, the first Black woman nominated for the nation’s highest court, without any GOP support in the 50-50 Senate, where Vice President Kamala Harris can cast the tiebreaking vote.
McConnell slammed the liberal groups that have supported Jackson, and he criticized her for refusing to take a position on the size of the nine-member court, even though that decision is ultimately up to Congress. Some advocacy have pushed for enlarging the court after three of President Donald Trump’s nominees cemented a conservative majority.

It’s quite likely a free vote for Ditch anyway.
I wonder how Manchin will vote.
Why anyone vote for her? She knows nothing and won’t answer questions because she want the job so badly. This is a bad joke for a nomination and is what you get when you have a mail order President:
Is the guy that had a stroke back? Lejun?
I wonder how Manchin will vote.
I have a feeling we all may be pleasantly surprised and shocked at the outcome of this.
I’m shocked, to be honest.
It’s scary that this woman was a sitting judge prior to this,
in any jurisdiction.
I’ve only watched a short bit of her testimony, but she
seems to have a bit of an attitude, an expectancy of
entitlement.
Sasse the ass will vote for her, he was practically licking her behind during the hearings so Manchin’s vote will mean nothing
The Republicans cannot get one Dem to vote against her?
“ Why anyone vote for her? ”
Eh, to wreck our country….
Hello.
I’ve not been paying much attention to this. It is all theater. GOP will make angry noises, but Biden will get his nominee approved.
If some scandal emerges with KBJ. He will nominate some other leftist wacko who won’t be any better.
(Stolen) elections have consequences.
I wouldn’t expect Manchin or Simena to buck the party on this. Jackson’s seat on SCOTUS is as good as a done deal.
Romney also said child porn is a non issue.
The sacrificial votes are always prearranged.
This is one of those votes, like repealing Obamacare. They vote to attempt to convince their constituents they’re fighting the destruction of our nation’s sovereignty. But when it comes down to brass tacks, they are completely fine with the government takeover of 1/5 of our economy.
It would be super awesome if some Democrats decided to show us what these skunks would really vote like on this disgusting SC nominee, by mounting enough no votes to deny her confirmation unless Republicans crossed the aisle.
Dems could actually pick up some seats if they did that.
Dominion has filled the Senate with all the votes they need.
Who cares what turncoat Mitch says?
“She knows nothing and won’t answer questions”
I think she knows a lot — seems to be quite smart. (Although quite evil.) But she won’t answer questions for sure, to keep straddling that fence.
What annoys the hell out of me is how she uses every trick in the book to run out the clock when GOPs are asking questions. Long pregnant pauses. “Thank you for giving me the opportunity to answer that.” Blah blah blah.
If Trump had nominated a black woman, demonrats would have fought tooth and nail at volume 11 against the “historic” pick
Make Democrats own the optics of the black Vice-President casting the tie-breaking vote to force the first black woman onto the Supreme Court, because she was THAT unacceptable a choice to the representatives of the states in the union.
