North Korea has fired what is believed to be its first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) in more than four years as Western leaders gather in Brussels for a security summit.

The suspected ICBM flew to an altitude of 6,000 kilometers (3,728 miles) and to a distance of 1,080 kilometers (671 miles) with a flight time of 71 minutes before splashing down in waters off Japan's western coast on Thursday, according to Japan's Defense Ministry.

The altitude would suggest it is a "new type of ICBM," Japan's Vice Defense Minister Makoto Oniki told reporters Thursday. The missile landed inside Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone, 150 kilometers (93 miles) west of Oshima Peninsula in Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost main island, the Defense Ministry confirmed.

I think someone got one of these numbers wrong — or this wasn’t an ICBM. What’s the point of launching an ICBM more than 3,700 miles up in the air to cover a 671-mile horizontal distance? The International Space Station orbits at an altitude of only 250 miles.

Yeah. And the Sea of Japan is maybe 500 miles at it’s widest? That would mean if the missile came down off the west coast of Japan then it almost hit the beach.

Every one of the civilized world's most dangerous enemies (China,Russia,North Korea,Iran, etc) fully understands that they have *nothing* to fear from the United States Armed Forces today. They laugh and sneer when they hear a top military officer say that the greatest threat that our Armed Forces face today is "white rage"...and when they hear that men masquerading as women are now in command of front line combat forces.

They know that Mao's chant of the 1960s..."paper tiger"...has come true!

The numbers posted in this article are comparable to a basketball player heaving a ball up into the rafters to sink a shot from the free throw line.

If the numbers seem off, remember that this is CNN. Fact checking refers to political correctness, not adherence to actual events.

Or they got the numbers right and this thing’s range is pretty far. Probably the Norks don’t want to splash it in the Pacific because they don’t want to overfly Japan and risk war.

ICBMs launched from the interior of the U.S. fly to their targets at an altitude of less than 700 miles. What kind of range do these North Korean ICBMs need — enough to fly around the globe four or five times before reaching the target?

All it takes is 1 to set the world ablaze. Lil Fatman launches against any U.S. territory or ally and the world comes to an end. I’ve had to live with this since the 62 missile crises. I still remember dad loading up the car in preparation for evacuation.

He just wants to have hissy fits until Biden gives him a sweetheart deal like Obama gave the Iranians and Biden is close to Worst Deal In History II.
