Ukraine 'running out of weapons' as other countries 'fail to send promised aid'

Ukraine is believed to be running out of weapons as it continues to hold off Russian forces, amid warnings some countries have failed to send promised aid.

Western nations have thrown their support behind the war-torn nation following Vladimir Putin's invasion on 24 February.

According to The Times, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has told Boris Johnson that his country was getting through a week's supply of weapons in just 20 hours as the Russian attack and constant shelling comes on multiple fronts.

But while many countries have promised weapons to help bolster the Ukrainian arsenal, some have not kept up the supply.

Paul Grod, president of the Ukrainian World Congress, told the newspaper that some nations – including Germany and France – had not delivered promised arms.

Following the reports, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that further supplies of Strela missiles were on the way to Ukraine following delays.

"I can clearly say that further Strela deliveries are on the way," Baerbock told the Bundestag lower house of parliament.

"We are one of the biggest weapons suppliers in this situation, it doesn't make us proud but it's what we must do to help Ukraine," she added.

According to The Times, Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba has said the military only has a fortnight of anti-aircraft and anti-tank missiles left.

Some countries have sent extra weapons in previous days, which he said has only “partially improved” the situation.

Ukrainian troops are also said to have resorted to using captured Russian “trophies”, such as vehicles and other equipment, to boost its own supplies and use against the invading force.

On 9 March, British defence secretary Ben Wallace told the House of Commons that the UK had delivered 3,615 anti-tank (NLAW) weapons and would soon supply a “small consignment” of Javelin

When I was in Nam the standard ammo supply was considered 200 rounds for the M-16. However those with experience would forgo carrying a lot of other things and simply pack as much ammo as possible.

On our gunboats we were supposed to carry two boxes of ammo for each 50 cal. We’d pack 10 each. In combat ammo disappears at a prodigious rate. Far more is used than any estimates from REMFs. We even had some REMF tell us we were using too much ammo. Much hilarity ensued.

But a weeks supply of ammo is a weeks supply. This depends on need not some fantasy number invented by some college trained REMF.

It probably will be spent with the same efficiency as Biden’s cancer charity:

https://nypost.com/2020/11/14/biden-cancer-initiative-spent-millions-on-payroll-zero-on-research-report/

“Tax filings reveal Biden cancer charity spent millions on salaries, zero on research”

“The group’s president, Gregory Simon, raked in $429,850 in fiscal 2018 (July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2019), according to the charity’s most recent federal tax filings.

Simon, a former Pfizer executive and longtime health care lobbyist who headed up the White House’s cancer task force in President Barack Obama’s administration, saw his salary nearly double from the $224,539 he made in fiscal 2017, tax filings show.

Danielle Carnival, former chief of staff for Obama’s cancer initiative, the Cancer Moonshot Task Force, took home $258,207 in 2018.”

“But under grants distributed, it listed zero.”

What aid did the Germans pledge?

To keep buying Russian gas and oil.

Weapons makers might just be in for a 5 year windfall on profuction at least after this. I say should, but I’m speculating.

NATO members in Europe are making lots of noise about new defense spending, but we'll see if they follow through. Recent history says no. But yeah, Raytheon is going to have to add a shift or another production line, as I bet the Javelin order line is ringing off the hook.

“Too little, too late”

The west does not want a Ukranian military victory... not that this is remotely possible. But they may want to insert just enough man-portable weaponry to keep a good-size insurgency going. In which case there is probably no rush.

The other post here is that Russia has lost 40K troops and is hopelessly losing? It doesn’t take a genius to see something here doesn’t jive.

Because you see what you want to see

A lot of this is probably “process” delays, as one of the Pubbie Senators pointed out the other day, regarding US deliveries. Bureaucrats can (and do) muck up anything. And God forbid someone actually looks ahead or moves proactively.

If it’s bad with the US, most Euro’s are prolly going to be 3x worse.

I thought France would follow through but never trust Germany. Never.

The Germans still want to take over the World but this time without firing a shot

The Ukraine is losing when they want more aid.

The Ukraine is winning when they want to score propaganda points.

The truth—good luck finding it in the fog of war.

Yes, so stop sending stuff to prolong things. Russia isn’t losing those numbers and neither is Ukraine. Ukraine also isn’t winning nor will it. They should sue for peace.

At the end of the day, it’s not our business.
