Beneath the gold onion domes of the Danilov Monastery a few miles south of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin’s chief shaman explains why Russia is hell-bent on destroying Ukraine.
“If we see [Ukraine] as a threat, we have the right to use force to ensure the threat is eradicated,” Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill recently preached to his church’s 90 million faithful followers. “We have entered into a conflict which has not only physical but also metaphysical significance. We are talking about human salvation, something much more important than politics.”
The wartime coalition between Putin and his patriarch is called symphonia, an ironclad alliance between church and state that assures reciprocal reverence, with neither institution presuming to dominate the other. Theologians have spent centuries bickering over the fine points, which have now impaled 44 million Ukrainians as the victims of a bloodthirsty land-grab that Putin and the Patriarch have packaged as a holy campaign to cleanse souls.
“A new world order is born before our very eyes,” is how Putin described the relationship in a statement published at the start of the war, later warning those who disagreed with him “inflict maximum damage on people.” He said: “The Russian people will be able to distinguish true patriots from scum and traitors and spit them out like a midge that accidentally flew into their mouths.”
To be sure, the only lingering question is how far into repression and hideous cruelty can Putin and his patriarch descend before the means no longer justify the ends.

As the patriarch sees it, Ukrainians are sinners. “Many people out of weakness, stupidity, ignorance and most often a willingness to justify sin condemned by the Bible is a test of our ability to profess faith in our Savior,” Kirill has told his flock.
Patriarch Kirill is a traditionalist.
Traditionalists believe in an older order of things, prior to the upending of their society.
It informs Putin as to why he has to try and rebuild the Soviet Union, because he thinks the Soviet Union was Russia’s height of civilization
Onward Christian Soldiers.
Patriarch Kirill fancies himself the leader of “The Third Rome”; protector not merely of the height of Russia’s civilization but of global civilization itself as the heir and successor to Rome and Byzantium.
This is a spectacularly dishonest article.
The author pulls the same trick twice — inserting a word that wasn’t there to twist the meaning of the original quote.
The line about sinners applies to all humanity according to Orthodox Christianity. But the journalist twist it to pretend the church leader thinks only Ukrainians are sinners. Well guess what most of the Ukrainians are Orthodox and most of those are affiliated with this religious leader who they falsely accuse of “wanting to destroy ukraine” and thinking they are uniquely a sinful people.
All the articles that use this line have exactly the same two misquotes and misattributions...
I wish Trump had said that, but that would have been too embarrassing because he picked a lot of them.
I don’t have any reason to defend Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill, but I thought the same thing when I read this article earlier from another source. It’s dishonestly written with a lot of dark innuendo and selective quoting to make him sound as nefarious as possible.
Lover of the Russian queen. 😀
That patriarch is a KGB hack.
Daily reminder that Kirill is a KGB operative with a codename per KGB records. His task was in spreading Liberation Theology through the world religious organizations, which he seems to have been doing as late as 2009 before getting picked to be Archbishop.
He is not a “traditionalist.” He just plays one on tv.
See above post.
The situation of Russia vs Ukraine is much more complex than surface analysis would indicate. It appears that Russia is running a deception operation on a massive scale, making themselves to be weaker than they appear (prevent arms buildup). The amount of western information warfare and propaganda is massive. Also it appears that Russia is using Kiev as bait, not driving in there but tying Ukraines best units there as they take the south and east of the country. The widespread use of third rate units and central Asian mercenaries would also fit this mold. On the grand scale, Russia will get the most productive parts of Ukraine, create an alternative trading system with China and other bad actors, de westernize, adapting Chinese censorship styles and social credit systems, and re assemble the Soviet Union and its institutions for the most part. Those are all wins on Putin’s part.
I can’t believe that this is a religious war also. Are these Catholic ruled by Pope Francis in Rome?
This Patriarch Kirill has the same narcissist personalty disorder as Muhammad ibn Abdullah. Quick! Get him into a mental institution!
Hey SeekAndFind,
Here is the original document the author drew from in his article.
You can see the first quote from the journalist is a complete fabrication.
For the second quote, the journalist’s preface twists the intended meaning to the exact opposite of what the speech says. He doesn’t say “we are sin-free and justified and they are evil”. He says the opposite, that we must all identify and move past sin with God’s help.
“we must repent of our own sins. Approach your life with a very deep and impartial analysis, ask yourself what is good and what is bad, and in no case justify yourself, they say, I quarreled with this or that, because they were wrong . This is a false argument, this is the wrong approach. One must always ask before God: Lord, what have I done wrong? And if the Lord helps us to realize our own untruth, then repent of this untruth.”
here is a link to the full translated speech, I hope you read it:
The Speech also serves as a strong refutation of the jokers in this thread who think the Patriarch is a strong advocate of liberation theology.
Deus Vult 2.0......
Thank you.
Some of these posts come straight from the father of lies who was a murderer from the beginning.
Putin? A new world order? Wait, what?
