War in Ukraine Is Already Taking Its Toll on Global Food Supplies

Shortages of fuel, fertilizer and workers caused by the Russian invasion will shrink an annual bounty that countries rely on around the world

Ukrainian farmer Igor Borisov has 2,000 metric tons of corn from the fall harvest stuck in a warehouse behind Russian battle lines. Like other farmers across Ukraine, his crop for this year is also imperiled.

Global concerns that Russia’s invasion would curtail Ukraine’s 2022 harvest have come to fruition. The crop shortfall will extend to the many countries that rely on Ukraine for wheat, corn and cooking oil.

With wheat already in the ground, and only a few weeks left to plant corn, farmers in Ukraine can’t get needed fertilizers and chemicals. They are low on fuel for tractors and other farm equipment. Workers are quitting to join the fight or to leave the country, leaving farms short-handed.

Mr. Borisov said he and other farmers need to start their corn, sunflower and barley crops in April and May. That is now in doubt, and the impact on food supplies and prices will be felt world-wide.

Ukraine has minimal impact on the world.

The percentage affected by attenuation of Ukraiine trade is minuscule.

Affects us almost zero.

Of course Brandon will use the excuse of this war and push narratives such as presented in this article.

From what I understand, Russia is a huge food exporter. If we are not allowed to buy from them that may affect our food supply. But I haven’t done much research about it. Most of my info about this comes from Ben Shapiro’s podcast.

Are you sure it wasn’t the global LOCK-DOWN-pandemic?

Ukraine produced 10% of all grain traded internationally last year.

“From what I understand, Russia is a huge food exporter.”

The article addressed Ukraine not being able to export food.

Russia does not have that problem except to the extent it is self-chosen, i.e. a decision not to buy from Russian sources.

Couldn’t American farmers make up for that lost amount?

That soil probably has so many chemicals in it that they just put seeds in the ground and water it.

I think the media likes excuses for more immigration and turmoil in the World.

“however despite being a top 10 world producer of several crops such as wheat and corn Ukraine still only ranks 24 out of 112 nations measured in terms of overall agricultural production” -— https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Ukraine#Agriculture

We sold or shipped millions of bushels of wheat/corn to Russia all through the 70's and 80's during the cold war.

I have a great idea!

The Klaus-Schwabian government bureaucrats who locked down the entire world are responsible for the supply chain chaos and the food crisis, but let’s start a war so we can blame everything on Russia!

“Ukraine produced 10% of all grain traded internationally last year.”

To whom was it sold?

You would be as wrong as you can be about the Uke food production. And Russia cannot feed itself let alone export much. Caviar doesn’t count for much. Ukraine and Belarus (which is not now Russia) grow Roughly 80 percent of Russian grain/corn which is produced by Ukraine because that’s where the FARMLAND is. And that’s a huge reason Pootin would like to control the UKE. And BTW Ben Shapiro can’t even grow chin whiskers never mind corn.

“You would be as wrong as you can be about the Uke food production.”

Wrong about what?

I asked who their grain is sold to.

They make ten percent of the world’s grain (I’m accepting that number presented here).

Now breakdown the percentage of that 10% - where does it go to.

“Roughly 80 percent of Russian grain/corn which is produced by Ukraine...”

Ok. What percent of Ukraine’s 10% is this?

(I won’t even ask about your strange superfluous comment about Ben Shapiro).

The USA imports almost no food from Russia.

The minuscule amounts of anything food related the US imports from Russia can easily be replaced by other suppliers.

Any food the US imports are essentially luxury items by those among the wealthiest in the world.
