We humans are wired in such a way as to look out for our best interests. It's how we survive. But sometimes we go off the rails and do things that can cause us more harm than good. And yes, I'm thinking of the love and affection some Republicans still have for Donald Trump, despite all the harm he has done to them and the party.
You'd think that after losing the House during his presidency, and losing the presidency itself.....
Think about it this way: We are humans, after all, not robots. We don't always color inside the lines because coloring outside the lines makes us feel, well, independent. It's a way to be rebellious. Voting for Trump is the political version of coloring outside the lines.
Donald Trump stands for something important to his most loyal followers, the ones who are truly committed to him. They may not believe, as he claims to believe, that he's a "stable genius." They may not even believe that he's stable. But they believe something important about him nonetheless: that he's standing up to all those snooty liberal elites who condescendingly believe they're better than the "hayseeds" who live in flyover country and eat at chain restaurants and fly the flag on the Fourth of July.
Never underestimate the power - or the raw satisfaction - of getting even, of settling the score with smug "sophisticates" who think they're better than "ordinary" Americans. That's why Donald Trump is so popular even now, even after all the harm he has done to his party, even though he, more than anyone else, may be responsible for the progressive agenda that President Biden is pursuing. Trump, after all, is why Biden is president.

Trump voters are sick of the know it all elites and media that believe they know what is best for us and cram it down our throats (e.g., gay marriage, trangenderism, covid mandates)
Goldberg, who voted against Reagan both times.
I’d say it’s the radical left which can’t quit Trump.
Yes, a liberal moonbat will explain to everyone why we like Trump.
Goldberg is a liberal but he’s usually sharper than this.
Trump was the best President in my lifetime by far. And I am 70.
But if it were between Desantis and Trump, I would take Desantis.
This is the silliest, most shallow understanding of Trump support we’ve seen.
They just don’t get it. Most of us who vote for Trump are voting for a capable administrator who shares our values and love of country.
To me, and many like me, Trump isn’t a role model, he’s not my buddy, he’s someone I see as an excellent hire.
My God who is really running this country because it doesn’t feel American or free. Is it China or some awful criminal cabal? Who knows? But it is relentless in its wish to CONTROL us.
“But if it were between Desantis and Trump, I would take Desantis.”
I’m with you, but either one would be light years ahead of the current clown show in Washington.
Never underestimate the power - or the raw satisfaction - of getting even, of settling the score with smug “sophisticates” who think they’re better than “ordinary” Americans.
Um, because in spite of his faults, he’s the best president we’ve had since Reagan?
“some”
I always felt Governors are the best Presidents. One of the reasons is, as the Executives of their State, they work with a lot of people, who they can bring with them to Washington, and hit the ground running.
Trump’s tires were spinning in the dirt, while he was trying to put his team together. And frankly, many who Trump hired, were looking to sabotage him from within, as we clearly saw.
You would hope the guys that say DeSantis would bring with him from Florida, are guys he knows and trusts.
Hopefully he will better vet his advisors this time.
Paul Ryan lost the House on purpose because neocons hated Trump and his supporters.
Not “can’t”…”WON’T”.
Goldbrick lives in a bubble with the rest of the Lincoln Projectionists.
