Europe seeks breakthrough on climate change plans amid energy crisis

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - EU environment ministers will assess their progress on negotiating a raft of new climate change policies on Thursday, with countries divided over whether soaring energy prices should speed up or slow down their green agenda.

The invasion of Ukraine by Russia, Europe's top gas supplier, has put the EU on a mission to quit Russian fossil fuels within a few years - by hiking gas imports from elsewhere, and doubling down on its plans to slash planet-warming emissions this decade.

Those plans, which Brussels says will both fight climate change and help wrest countries free of Moscow's influence, include a dozen laws to curb emissions from industry, transport and the energy sector.

Ministers from EU countries will attempt on Thursday to find routes out of disagreements on some of the most contentious proposals, which a majority of EU countries and European Parliament must both approve.

Top of the list is a planned new carbon market to impose costs on CO2 emissions from transport and heating fuels.

A preparatory document by France, which chairs meetings of EU ministers until June, said countries still hold "significant differences of opinion" on that policy.

I thought the only thing that Brussels knew was how to get run over, militarily. The EU deserves its fate.

Yeah, ok. As if the corrupt, leftist hacks in government aren't doing everything they possibly can to speed up the "green" (that is, tyrannical) agenda.

There is one key element missing from the environmental wackos’ headlong rush away from fossil fuels:
VIABLE ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES

That tells me their are looking to liquidate a bunch of us, or lock us down in total control and/or isolation.

It is very telling what they are NOT saying out loud so we all can hear it.

Not to get off topic, but is nuclear radiation good for the environment? Apparently it must be because everything I am seeing today is ultimately pointing towards nuclear war thanks to the most brain dead moron to ever hold office, Joe Biden and I don’t seem him getting one fraction of the amount of criticism Trump got when Trump was setting records in the economy, jobs and was doing an incredible job in foreign relations.

Key phrase right there. Its not really about climate change. Its about how to ensble another scam to steal people's money and grab more power.

The leaders of Europe are not serious people. It’s stories like this that make me think that Russian T-90s in Brussels or 5 million Syrians in Berlin wouldn’t be worse than what they currently have.

Fuel for cars, heat for homes. Good targets for the taxman aa nobody can survive without either one.

--- "Key phrase right there. Its not really about climate change. Its about how to enable another scam to steal people's money and grab more power."

Exactly. "...to impose costs, as the article words it."

What the new aristocracy wants -- as did every previous aristocracy -- is continued and increasing "rent" from their subjects. Imposing costs on whom? The consumer. For what? No added value, excepting the gracious gift of more government.

As a decades long resident of Germany (and no longer), the word game was played with the laughable sales tax, known as VAT or "value added tax." No value was added in nations where the tax burden was already high. And in some European nations, Sweden being an example, the heaviest burdens of taxation are being pulled back for having suffocated economies. The EU wants MORE money. That the entire game.

I have a message for them:

It's real simple folks, so simple even a libtard 'rat can understand it.

So-called "green" initiatives take money and other resources.

Real people - not governments that can borrow/print money at will - have to balance the resources they put into "going green" with all their other needs and priorities.

Therefore, if you want people to be able to even consider "going green" or at least "greener" they will need access to relatively inexpensive energy. With inflation and energy costs skyrocketing, there is nothing left over.

People focused on merely getting to work, keeping the lights and the heat on are not going to be concerned about where the beach is in a hundred years. So it is in your own best interests to help ensure they have the resources to put into "green."

Many (most?) Europeans are opposing the green new deal. But Germany took the lead on promoting it and the EU is now run by them!
Greens (antifa) are very violent un Europe!
E.G. The European version of Heartland institute climate conference was attacked by Antifa and had to be moved to some airport hangar under heavy police protection.
The last one had to be organize under secrecy rules.
“Sign, Show up in the city and in the last minute, we will give you instructions where to go!”
Incredible!
