Marina Ovsyannikova risked jail by opposing Putin on TV. Here’s why we fear for her {TV producers holds sign NO WAR on live TV on 14.March}

...Already nearly 15,000 people have been detained in Russia for participating in demonstrations against the war. What future awaits these brave citizens, as well as Ukrainians captured in the occupied territories?

Since its occupation of Crimea in 2014, Russia has escalated the punishments for people exercising their right to freedom of speech and assembly. The most recent manifestation of the clampdown on civil rights is the law rushed on to the statute books to punish citizens spreading “fake news” about the military, with custodial sentences of three and a half to fifteen years. Marina Ovsyannikova, who held up an anti-war poster during a news broadcast on Russian state TV Channel One on Monday, may be among the first to fall under the new law.

...The custodial sentences handed out to people opposing the war will not be served in typical western-style cellular prisons, but in “correctional colonies” (ispravitel’nie kolonii). These house prisoners in barracks-like accommodation blocks, which were originally introduced to manage the millions of forced labourers who passed through Stalin’s Gulag.

...In a chilling article a few days ago in RIA Novosti, Russia’s domestic news agency, we learned that Ukrainians resisting the invasion are supposedly suffering from a generalised case of Stockholm syndrome; and that after liberation, “a whole complex of measures will be required to bring this mentally unhealthy population to their senses”. The fear must be that Russia will revert to measures gestated in the Gulag to correct those who are judged too slow in coming to their senses.

Yes, Putinist fan-boy, Putin is losing.

The operation was supposed to be a quick one that he could claim a quick victory. Russian opposition to this war is increasing

Militarily the Russian army should have walked right in. The fact they didn't is a sign of bad logistics, and low military morale to invade a brotherly Slav country

No, Putin is not losing. Kiev is surrounded.

Like a typical Democrat you love attacking and trolling rather than seeing reality.

I am not supporting Soros nor Biden (jr or sr).

Yes you are. Just because you're ignorant doesn't mean you are carrying out the will of Soros, Hillary, Rothschild, and the rest of the Deep State scum.

Why do you support scum?

Why are you supporting Putin?

ThankQ for asking. Because he fights my enemy and the enemy of my people.

Why do you support the enemy?

Putin IS losing

His army has suffered losses, his troop morale is sub-zero and he's not yet gained Mariupol, leave alone Kyiv, despite having massive advantages.

The Russian army does not have its heart in this, Putin's war

When it ends, however it ends, Putin will have lost

There is news of Russians being non-supportive or even against Putin’s war.

Poles and Ukrainians I have met still don’t hate Russians. They hate Putin and distrust the Russian government, but no hate for Russian people - YET.

The Ukranians aren’t monolithic in their support, either. I have no reason to hate anyone Russian or Ukrainian unless they affect me personally.

Exactly. Hating “Russian people” or “Ukrainian people” is just incorrect.

Oh wait, you answered that, you support Putin Because he fights my enemy and the enemy of my people. - so the Ukrainians are your enemy? And they are the enemy of "your people" - whatever they are.

The Russian attack on Ukraine is appalling. It’s an outrage and an atrocity that should never have been allowed to occur. … We are praying for the proud people of Ukraine.

Its much worse in Biden's America where real journalists lie Project Veritas, who don't tow the Biden line are routinely terrorized by the FBI:

Hi

According to the following sources:
1. Russian RTV television - read what they report. It’s biased of course, but even with the bias, no fanfare of wins
2. Ukrainian news - it’s biased as well, so take this and the previous with a pinch of salt
3. Telegram channels - both Russian and Ukrainian. This gives a truer picture on the ground, but it is disjointed

I wrote “His army has suffered losses, his troop morale is sub-zero and he’s not yet gained Mariupol, leave alone Kyiv, despite having massive advantages.”

“Losses” — even RTV and Russian official news has given 500 dead and 1600 wounded. Those are definitely under-reported. IT’s not the 10K that Ukrainians report, but the number is in-between. Even on the lower end, these are not what the Russian public is willing to spend on a war with Ukraine. a war in the Caucasus or against the west, maybe, but with Ukraine NO.

“troop morale is sub-zero” — Telegram channels. And more importantly there are no “soldiers cheering Putin” on RTV. They can’t get them

“not yet gained Mariupol, leave alone Kyiv, despite having massive advantages.”
- this is freely known even on Russian state TV. Mariupol has not fallen yet.

“The Russian army does not have its heart in it”
- that’s an inference based on the lack of “soldiers cheering” information on RTV - while they had a lot of this in the war in Syria.

Thank you for the informative comments. I get some info from my Ukrainian wife’s family and friends when the comms is not down. Today I learned that the “separatists” in Alchevsk (in the Donnas) have pressed factory workers into service to fight against the Ukrainian Army. Sixty of them from Alchevsk have been killed in the fighting. Many Russian-speakers in the eastern Ukraine are pro-Ukraine in spite of what you hear from FRs Putin Brigade. The “separatists” movement was started by Putin sending in personnel, money, and arms.

I looked through some of his posts. There’s plenty to disagree with but also plenty to agree with. He doesn’t operate as a troll.

A “left wing psycho in the USA interrupting a broadcast” will likely be hailed as a hero, get a lucrative book deal, and end up with a $100k+ position with great benefits at a major University. Plus big $ speaking engagements.

Marina Ovsyannikova gets arrested, interrogated for 14 hours, can still be re-arrested (likely when attention dies down a bit), can be convicted under Russia’s new anti-dissent law, will IMO end up spending several years or more incarcerated / “rehabilitated”, and may get dusted with Polonium at some point, or just disappear.

Yep, no difference.

I’ll say it again: Russki trolls have a redeeming feature: They are so moronic and / or obvious that like Putin pushing Finland, etc., toward NATO, they likely push 10 people to Ukraine’s side for every 1 they bring to their side. Maybe Putin will “reward” the trolls appropriately, KGB/FSB style.

Monte - I need to repeat what you just said for people who have constantly heard the Putin propaganda about "Russian speakers being oppressed"
