Firearms used for home and self defense shouldn’t require more than several rounds, maybe none, over a lifetime. Proficiency is important but doesn’t require all that much ammo. What’s the dif’?
Ya, and my 90 rd. training sessions are now 30.
Barter baby…
Of course, hunters might be in a jam.
I cut from 100 to 50 two years ago when this started.
No end in sight.
I believe it would devolve to pure survival very quickly.
Resolved any long-term worries about this in the 1990s...
They all claim to be running flat out. But with 750,000 new gun owners every month, they can’t keep up with demand. I haven’t seen new hunting ammo in well over a year.
It’s out there. We’ve gotten some in the last few weeks.
Story I’m getting is the ammo makers are backlogged for NATO ammo, so resources are going there. If you hunt, reload. Strive for “one shot, one kill”. Most old hunters I’ve known were stocked up, it’s the newbees that are having a problem. I’ve reloaded since 1975. Problems I see the most is powder and primers. I can cast lead from 22 to 45. The lead is for practicing and the jacketed for hunting. The FMJ is. Well it just is. Regards
Ammo is one area in which it is wise to be diversified, Somewhere, I have an old “Gun Digest” article outlining what early American shooters of 7.62x39 had to go through for ammo. It involved trimming, swaging, and fire-forming a different imported cartridge case, and loading your own.
Be sure to tell them what firearms you own and where you secure them.
ROLCON!
Supposedly the parent company of Palmetto State Armory is gearing up to make those calibers.
I met the founders at The Shot Show ten years ago. Great guys and I’ve bought from them on and off for a while. I’m assembling one of their rifles with their match trigger. I’m kinda looking forward to trying it. Hope they get that going. They’ve been good to me.
That’s Undercover PoPo.
Tell me again who’s making all domestic rounds in 5.45? We only recently got a US plant making 7.62x39 (Winchester).
At this point, you should buy whatever you can get your hands on. Waiting for American manufacturers to fill demand might mean you won’t have any ammo.
What’s the difference?
On about TWENTY different occasions over the past 2 years, we needed to have at least a show of force by showing up at statue smashing, street burning and finally a COUP, and we did not.
Don’t worry guys.
Hopefully a new batch will come in soon enough to keep shooting at the range or going hunting.
Cause it seems that’s all they’d ever be used for.
Firearms used for defense should be checked often and trained with frequently. Turns out that marksmanship is a perishable skill, as is the manual of arms for a modern combat arm.
Unless you think you’re only going to engage hostiles that stand still at the end of a cleared field and you will be shooting at them from a prone or seated position without having to relocate, static range training is inadequate. There’s a reason the military and police run through shoot houses now, and why two and three gun matches are popular.
