Ammunition Price Hikes Imminent As Commodity Prices Soar
Nation And State ^ | 3-14-2022

Posted on 03/14/2022 7:58:06 PM PDT by blam

American gun owners can expect ammunition and reloading component price increases due to soaring commodity prices in the next few weeks.

Vista Outdoor, the leading U.S. manufacturer of ammunition, announced earlier this year that “supply chain constraints and increases in our raw materials” will result in “price increases to help offset those rising costs.”

Price hikes will begin on April 1 for Vista Outdoor ammo brands, including CCI, Federal, Hevi–Shot, Remington, and SPEER. The ammo and component price increases are as follows:

•Primers – 5%
•Powder – 5%
•Handgun – 2-8%
•Rifle – 3-8%
•Shotgun – 3-12%

Vista Outdoor revealed April’s price increases back in December when the Bloomberg Industrial Metals Subindex Index was 40% lower than current prices today, which suggests ammo prices could be headed much higher than what was initially forecasted in December. Bullets are made of various materials, such as copper, lead, steel, and brass.

Ahead of price increases, AMMO, Inc. (separate ammunition and components manufacturer from Vista Outdoor) reports Americans are panic buying all types of ammunition following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The days of cheap ammo came to an end during the virus pandemic when people panic hoarded guns due to social unrest in liberal cities. Another buying wave is emerging, plus soaring commodity prices and an imminent price hike will make ammo even more expensive.

Thanks, President Biden. Your “Build Back Better” plan has resulted in the costs of everything rising (well before the Russian invasion) and now are only getting worse.

I don’t care about 5.56mm. 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 is what matters for my AKs.

The price of primers going up? That’s cute. The price times “never in stock” is kind of irrelevant.

Been going up for awhile. Finding primers and powder is tough, costs were already high. I don’t see it getting lower priced or easier to find.

Technically the bloated trillions of $$$ plan was called “The American Rescue Plan”...fortunately the even bigger “Build Back Better” plan has died for now. But then there is the recent additional “Omnibus” pork barrel spending bill (”we can’t seem to do an annual budget bill”). But I get your point! ;-)

I bought another 1000 cartridges for 7.62x39 and 5.45x39. But I still have enough to last for quite a few years.

When will production be increased?

The major US manufacturers have all been running 24/7 for about 2 years now. That is with the exception of Remington (due to its bankruptcy), but Big Green is back up and running as well.

Throw in panic buying, hoarders, and something like 12 million first-time gun purchasers in the past 2 years (who by default have to buy ammunition because they don't have any lying around) and you've got a helluva shortage. At this point it's going to be hard for people to stop habitually impulse buying any ammo they have a firearm chambered in on sight. Expect the shortage to last for awhile (NSSF is predicting another year or so!)

Ground's been broken on 2 or 3 new ammo plants, but I don't think any are finished yet. Of course any new production will likely be offset by the Dems' efforts to curtail imports, both of ammunition and lead.

5.45 may be a goner. Getting primers after the demand for 5.56 was met would be a big factor, if imports dried up.

There are quite a few mom & pop ammo manufacturers springing up. That will help take the load off the big manufacturers. The NATO stuff (9mm, 45acp, 5.56, 7.62, etc) will be easiest to find because that’s what is in highest demand. If you see any hunting caliber ammo you want, you better grab it.

American production of ammunition is being suppressed by the Oligarchy. It is that simple. All of our politicians are in on it.

I still have quite a few 7П6 spam cans. I have two AR15 riles in 5.56mm but I don’t care for the caliber much.
