NATO flexes its muscles on Putin's doorstep: Alliance sends 30,000 troops, 50 vessels and 200 aircraft to Russian-neighbour Norway for military drills

NATO has sent tens of thousands of troops, including Royal Marines, an aircraft carrier, a destroyer ship and a nuclear-powered attack submarine to Norway, which borders Russia.

Troops from 28 countries in Europe and North America are taking part in an exercise lasting around a month, which began in northern Norway on Monday.

NATO member Norway shares nearly 200km (124 miles) of land border with Russia.

The drill, named Cold Response, is being held just a few hundred kilometres from the Russian border,

Around 35,000 troops, 200 aircraft and 50 vessels are involved in Cold Response, including roughly 900 Royal Marines who will spearhead the UK involvement.

They will raid along the jagged Norwegian coastline from an amphibious task group led by HMS Albion.

Aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales will also take part and will be joined by frigate HMS Richmond, Type 45 destroyer HMS Defender, a Royal Fleet Auxiliary tanker and a nuclear-powered attack submarine escorting her.

The drills aim to show how a unified multilateral force would defend Norway and Europe's northern flank from a modern adversary.

The UK's participation in the exercises underlines Britain's commitment to security in Europe and forges closer bonds between NATO allies and partners.

'NATO as an alliance needs to be ready for anything, ready for all environments. It's essential for us to support Norwegian partners and that's why we train in the Arctic so often.

'Cold Response is an amazing opportunity for key NATO allies and partners to come together in the most challenging environment of the High North, prepare for any eventuality and learn to work together.

'What we'll see is a strong maritime task force and then land exercises. We will see many nations come together from the UK to Norway, the USA, the Netherlands, France, Germany and Italy.

If Russia collapses completely maybe those forces in Norway can help reclaim the parts of Finland that Stalin stole.

It’s a psychosis. The globohomo neocon/NATO idiots cannot stop looking for new ways to escalate. There isn’t the slightest reason to imagine Russia is about to invade Norway.

Now that it is apparent that Russia’s conventional military is not the juggernaut they once respected and feared, NATO is growing a pair.

Holding an exercise as a show of strength is an escalation? It was not showing strength that led to the invasion, Iran’s latest attack, and most of the worlds bad actors giving the west the finger. This isn’t about Russia invading Norway. It’s a statement of resolve, which we don’t get much of from the chief diaper head in the White House.

You prefer NATO just put their hands in their pockets and look the other way?

Agree completely. NATO has to stop this idiotic behavior. No one has threatened NATO at all if they stay in their box.

wait until Nato boys start dying for something they could care less about. only then will we see how big the pair really is.

I just hope they don’t accidentally blow up one of their own ships and blame it on Putin

” It was not showing strength that led to the invasion, “

Exactly the opposite is true. It is a maniacal sense of expansion in NATO and flipping the finger to the slightest reasonable concerns of Russia that lead to this. That and a clear determination to spread globohomo and WEF to every nation with color revolutions. We did one in Georgia, Ukraine, we tried in Kazakhstan and Belarus last year, and we clearly are trying to do one in Russia right now.

Endless western provocations are the cause of this. But Soros, Nuland, Vindman, Romney, and Schwab appreciate your support.

That’s awful far from the Ukraine to have those assets out there like that.

I’m curious. With 1.4 million in their military and some 100k on the Ukraine mission, probably using equipment that is being replace with newer weapons. How exactly is Russia weak? I’m thinking roid man is just using a small fraction of the military might they have since they though it would be an easy take over.
