Germany is reportedly planning to equip its air force with US-built F-35 stealth military jets. Berlin has previously announced that it will invest more in defense in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Germany has decided in principle to purchase the U.S. fighter jet F-35 built by Lockheed Martin to replace its aging Tornado fleet, according to reports on Monday.
The decision, if confirmed, comes after German Chancellor Olaf Scholz last month announced a massive boost in defense spending as the Ukraine conflict forces Berlin to reassess its foreign and defense policies. Why does Germany need the planes?
Berlin is reportedly seeking to use the Lockheed Martin planes to replace the country's Tornado fleet, introduced more than 40 years ago.
In light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Scholz said he would bring the nation's investments above a key NATO commitment 2% of GDP.
The F-35 is considered the world's most modern combat aircraft. Its unique shape and outer coating, make the jet difficult for enemy radar to detect.
At present, the Tornado is the only German jet capable of carrying US nuclear bombs, stored in Germany, in case of a conflict. However, the German airforce has been flying those planes since the 1980s, and they are due to be phased out between 2025 and 2030.
Announcing an increase in military spending, Chancellor Scholz said the German army would receive €100 billion ($113 billion) for investments and armament projects.
Germany reportedly plans to buy up to 35 of the planes.
Concerns had previously arisen that buying the F-35 aircraft could scupper joint plans with France to build a joint European combat aircraft.
“And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.
And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.
And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.
And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay” (Daniel 2:40-43).
Germany should remain disarmed and have nothing beyond a constabulary size force. Their Air Force should only have transports, helos, coastal rescue etc.
This is especially true since they are filling Germany with moslems.
That ship sailed long before East and West Germany were reunited.
Well, thanks to Putin, instead, Germany will be filled with more Panzer Brigades and F-35s.
With those long lines of sitting duck Russian tanks and armoured vehicles, Germany should bring back Stukas.
To try and make up for throwing NATO under the bus?
Somewhere Hans Fidel is smiling.
Russia should be broken up, disarmed, forbidden from owning arms so as to not have a new horde

So...Germany intends to buy F-35 aircraft with the money they haven’t been spending on NATO for all these years as agreed to?
Say no and force them to buy their equipment from Russia and China.

While the F-35s are sitting on the runways awaiting maintenance they can cover them with solar panels to collect a little energy.
Oh sure, all of that German sunshine will have them charged up in no time.
Poor Putin! His “invasion” is causing a bonanza of military sales for the US defense industry as Eastern Europe, and now Germany, loads up. Thanks Putin, we need the jobs!
😆
.....jus’ askin’...but has any variant of this aircraft ever lived up to its expectations....? last I read, there were still numbers of unresolved “issues” with this aircraft....
