Animal feeds to get costlier as war locks out Ukraine’s yellow maize

GERALD ANDAE 4 days ago

Traders are stuck with permits for the importation of yellow maize, even as the price of animal feeds hit an all-time high.Imports have been hindered by high prices of non-GMO maize in the market and war in Ukraine, where the animal feed manufacturers were targeting as the only source market. The government had issued permits to selected processors and traders in November last year on the condition that they import yellow maize that is 100 percent non-GMO.“We cannot import now because of what is happening in Ukraine, which is the only country at the moment with yellow maize that is not GMO,” the Association of Kenya Feeds Manufacturers said in a statement. The decision to allow yellow maize imports followed a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to the Treasury and Agriculture ministry to come up with a measure to tame the high cost of feeds.

We should immediately stop using ethanol in our gasoline and return that corn to animal feed use. It’s the only humane thing to do. /sarc

Oh don’t worry Ukraine has nothing the world needs.

Other than grain, corn, oil, gas, strategic pipelines, Black Sea access, entry onto the flat plains of Poland and borders with many NATO countries.

Nothing important /s

Other than grain, corn, oil, gas,

Fact checking you on the oil.

Most recent data I could find was for 2016. While they had oil reserves, the were running a net deficit and were exportin NO oil at that time.

51st in Reserves, 61st in production, and 49th in consumption. Have anything more recent to support that they are suppling world needs in oil?

As for gas, again they have reserves, but demand exceeds production. Remember, the whole mess started years ago when they diverted gas that Russia had sold to western Europe. Of course, that does confirm your strategic pipeline argument, as Ukraine's friends were trying to block Nord Stream 2 to bypass Ukraine.

There’s a book, Vanishing Empire, I saw the author on Fox. He explained how once Putin has Ukraine, he will either have destroyed the pipelines or use them to further hold Western Europe hostage.

Ukraine apparently does have significant grain and some of the strategic minerals we need.

And the strategic geographic position is undeniable.

Putin’s reasons for wanting Ukraine are very different from the stuff some here believe.

Just my opinion, thank you for discussing it.

All I care about is my chicken feed which went from $9 a bag to 13.50 a bag in two weeks.
Between the Ukraine and Russia the loss of fertilizer and grains will cause world wide famine in the next few months.

Oliver Stone’s second movie on Ukraine documents how the global oligarchs want Ukraine to buy everything from them.

Ukraine used to have one of the largest shipbuilding industries in the world. No more.
