Six Democratic governors — five of whom are up for re-election in November — have urged Congress to adopt legislation suspending the federal gas tax until next year as prices at the pump hit record highs after President Biden ordered a ban on importing Russian oil.

The six governors — Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, Jared Polis of Colorado, Tim Waltz of Minnesota, Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania, Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico, and Tony Evers of Wisconsin — noted in a letter to House and Senate leadership Tuesday that the average price of a gallon of gas had hit $4.173 that day, surpassing the previous high from the summer of 2008.

Federal gas tax is 18.4 cents per gallon. A pittance.

What a surprise the Governors of Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania are on this list. Gee, I wonder why.

We need to take all 3 of them out along with the RINO Kemp in Georgia.

Isn't the federal tax a fixed amount, not a percentage of the retail price?

Typical dems, notice they did not suggest that they should cut their states gas tax.

Stop mandating ethanol, which simultaneously lowers the cost of food and fuel.

That $3.60 is maybe a half a burger here in California...actually closer to one third of a burger.

A reminder that two of the six have some other issues:

18 cents is about the same as releasing another million gallons from the strategic reserve. It will have little or no effect fr the average motorist.

Doesn’t PA have the highest tax in the US? Why doesn’t he suspend the state tax?

Yeah. Walz knows that he’s in trouble in November. We will remember what he did to us during Covid.

Of course ,New York is not one of them. NEW YORK is to worried about using the excessive fuel tax to fund it’s insane spending programs. Programs that do not benefit the taxpayer!!!

It’s probably considered an easy source of tax revenue. And, gas pumps don’t show how much you are paying in tax. Here in California, almost $1.00 of the $5.50+ pump price is taxes and fees. About 18 cents for the federal tax and about 82 cents for various state taxes and fees added on. So nobody really knows how much you are paying in taxes when you buy gas.

I’ve often heard, that gas station operators make between 5 and 10 cents a gallon gross profit, regardless of what the retail price of gas is. Measure that 10 cents vs. the various taxes, government make a lot more for doing nothing and collecting tax, than do the people who actually are in the business of selling gasoline.

Pukes.

My gas has gone up over $3.00 since Talibidens coup.

Take your puny .18 cents and shove it up your prolapsed anus.

The federal gas tax holiday wouldn’t even make a noticible dent in the price at the pump. What is needed is a Trump style warp speed program to restore US energy independence. Biden is ushering in Depression era misery. Let’s hope the fall elections clean out Congress, but I’m not optimistic the RINOs leading the GOP will take any initiative.

They could add a whole dollar to the gas tax and it would still be considerably lower if we returned to the energy policies prior to Biden taking office.
