Washington (AFP) – The United States on Monday announced tougher emissions standards on trucks and buses starting from 2027, and said it would spend almost $1.4 billion on expanding green public transit.
The proposed new standards for gasoline and diesel heavy vehicles would place stricter limits on nitrogen oxides (NOx) that cause smog and soot, and set new greenhouse gas standards from 2030.
"Seventy-two million people are estimated to live near truck freight routes in America and they're more likely people of color and those with lower income," Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) director Michael Regan told reporters at an event for the announcement.
"Those overburdened communities are directly exposed to pollution that leads to respiratory and cardiovascular problems."
The new limits will apply to new vehicles made in 2027 onwards, and include school buses, transit buses, commercial delivery trucks, and short-haul tractors.
The EPA estimated it will prevent 2,300 deaths and 18,000 of childhood onset asthma by the year 2045.
Vice President Kamala Harris meanwhile announced nearly $1.4 billion to help state and local governments purchase US-built electric transit buses, via funding that was allocated in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed last year.
"Imagine a future: the freight trucks that deliver bread and milk to our grocery store shelves and the buses that take children to school and parents to work, imagine all the heavy duty vehicles that keep our supply lines strong and allow our economy to grow. Imagine that they produce zero emissions," she said.

Today’s standards are not harming people. This is part of the plot to go greener.

Washington DC does more damage to the average American in a day than Putin could accomplish in a lifetime.
Where was the EPA when people were injecting mRna poison into people ? think how many lives could have been saved.
Automatically will increase demand for all electric buses and trucks. Next, they will raise standard for gas vehicles and, along with Biden’s War petroleum price increases, will force people into EVs they do not want.

The only lesson here is that Democrat unions will do anything to stay in control. That whole thing(AB5?)is an effort to drive off(pardon the pun) all independent truckers.

Naturally. Anything that exists near POC communities is racist.
The whole point is to force everyone out of our combustible engine driven vehicles and into a green energy scam that is more expensive, dangerous to the environment and less efficient. End result no one will be driving anywhere which is all part of the Great Reset to take everything away from us.
I don’t think it was as much, not enough qualified trucks. It was more the truckers didn’t want to spend the thousands required to modify their equipment or buy a compliant vehicle.
OMG these people are INSANE, I can’t believe we have 3 more years of this BS, that is IF and that is a HUGE IF we can possibly have non fraudulent elections!! I am now very doubtful we will EVER HAVE fair elections again!! Bianca in Texas was making HUGE inroads with the Hispanic communities in Texas, and of course there are HUGE discrepancies in her primary election the powers that be CAN’T HAVE the Hispanic communities leaving the plantation!!
