In 2011, Thomas G. Mortenson, senior scholar at the Pell Institute for the Study of Opportunity in Higher Education in Washington, D.C. and independent higher education policy analyst, put together and published the 100+ item list “For Every 100 Girls….” on Education Week. In an email, Tom explained to me that “At the time I wrote it initially I was hearing and reading that boys were no different than girls, and the data I was looking at said something very different. Our differences are important, to both genders, and should be respected. Education has a long way to go to recognize, appreciate, and address these differences through educational opportunities tailored to these differences.”
"... about half of the items on the original list with the most recent data available and added some new items that demonstrate empirically the many significant differences between boys (men) and girls (women) on many measures of health outcomes, educational outcomes, educational and learning disabilities, suicide and homicide rates, incarceration rates, alcohol and drug abuse, behavior problems leading to suspension or expulsion in school, homelessness, etc.

MP: For those in the social constructionist movement who argue that the differences between men and women are entirely social conventions, how can these significant differences in gender be explained?
Science ping.
PING
So we should be swimming in women, right?
Not seeing it.
+++!!!
I don’t doubt there are some great differences. Even in the death part.
However, if this is US, let’s take a guess why some are as is.
Boys even just older than 5? Certainly in the teen to 40yo area….come on, it’s the urban yutes culture. And men are more likely to be involved in violence anyway, and more likely to be in dangerous jobs.
So, I’m sure it’s not all time to strike the violins. It’s not just medical (just as the average lifetime is BROUGHT DOWN by the violent urban culture - it’s not just about disease).
For every egg (female ovary) that dies, many million seeds (male sperm) die.
I’m just guessing on these numbers to make a point, but I bet I’m not too far off.
Every sperm (male) that survives, won the lottery - actually, the odds of winning the lottery are a lot better.
Men are winners!
The death of all those dead male sperm are generally caused by the hand of a male as well...
Very powerful.
It’s hard to quantify the support girls and boys get in the
education system. I can only extrapolate meaning from what
I observe in public, and it seems that girls are nearly
always given the benefit of the doubt. If they didn’t win,
it wasn’t because they weren’t as good. It had to be that
they were somehow cheated, or society just favored the boys.
If boys lose, they are accused of not dedicating themselves
enough, or somehow framed as losers.
Back in the 60s it became a big worry that too may boys
were growing into men who dominated business, the sciences,
and other endeavors. So that had to be fixed.
Curriculum were altered to appeal to the girls more. Boys
could be bored stiff, but if girls were getting egos stroked,
what matter did that make.
You see all the time, something that men have been doing since time began, if a woman does it, it’s like history
in the making.
Leaders just can’t help themselves. The media jumps in
with both feet. It’s a hullapaluza (poetic license, LOL) celebration.
Women are leaders on a lot more boards these days. I
think we can see what direction that has taken us, as
social media is just ransacked with prejudice and censorship
to the absolute max.
Even though some of these orgs are still run by men, they
have to appease the “it just isn’t fair” segment of their
board or management members.
Lets not forget the numbers breakdown on who women vote for.
Most times, it’s for the Leftist Democrats.
That’s my take on things. I expect some other views. That’s okay.
Can’t explain away those numbers very easily folks.
Something is rotten in denmark.
Do you have a link for that?
I’d like to be able to reference this to others.
200-500 million sperm cells per ejaculation/ ave. Highly variable of course. I often wonder, if it was a different sperm cell, would I be me? At all? Like partially me or me not at all? My unique consciousness never realized? Is one unique sperm a totally different life and existence? That one cell that was close but didn’t fertilize, not me? If so, it makes existence, well… existential. Deep thoughts, about sperm cells
Misrepresents the truth. The male data is skewed by black males. I suspect the normalized boy numbers with black numbers excluded are often closer to the girl numbers.
Roughly half the sperm cells attempting to fertilize the ovum which gave rise to you had only an X chromosome.
The (roughly) other half had only a Y chromosome.
(The ovum had - as always - only an X chromosome; all ova have only X chromosomes.)
So, if a different spermatozoön had succeeded in fertilizing the ovum that eventually gave rise to you, the chances are 50-50 that you would now be of a different sex.
Regards,
Blacks account for only about 13% of the U.S. population (I am assuming that the figures cited here "For every 100 girls..." all relate only to the U.S. - and not to the whole world.)
For such a small sub-set of the U.S. population to significantly skew the stats presented here, the corresponding stats (if they were available) for only the Black population would have to be out of this world!
Regards,
Or sometimes in the tummy of a good girlfriend?
Gender is masculine and feminine.
Genetic sex is male and female.
Biological sex cannot be altered.
If a man is feminine, he is still male.
If a woman is masculine, she is still female.
