I could prepare you a thunderchicken (what we call wild turkey in TX) and you would beg for more. It’s all in the prep. I can do the same with a 10 y.o. whitetail buck.

They’re all over Florida... and they’re creepy little b*stards. I have never felt bullied by them.

My rottweiler used to terrify them.

Turkeys hate red, white, and blue in breeding season. What color is a mail truck?

I got chased by a PO’d wild turkey when I was a teenager. Just going about doing my chores on the farm and that SOB flew up and started doing all sorts of crap in my chest and face area.
I ran away to the house, got the shotgun, but it was gone by the time I returned. My friends got a good laugh out of that story.

“I’d think wild turkey would be as gamey as geese”

Yes, it depends on what they eat. An old tom that’s been pigging out on acorns has pretty strong meat. A young goose that’s been feeding on wheat and corn is as sweet as any farm-raised goose.

Much smaller birds can put you in the hospital.

Those spurs are no joke. Any rooster can administer a stab wound. If they spend their time walking around in chicken poop, you can get septic pretty easily.

PBS had a show about some naturalist who raised a nest of turkey eggs to adulthood and they saw him as another turkey. By the end all the males except one had left the area. But then mating season came and that one male saw him as a rival for the hens rather than his "turkey brother" and jumped on his back to attack him. The man had to get a stick to hit the turkey and chase him off. They never did say what happened next since the man had won dominance and thus had rights to the hens.

It was unintentionally one of the funniest things on PBS with his "turkey brother" turning on him.

“Hitting a 35 pound turkey is is not something I’d care to do in the average car.”

Driving to Montreal on I-87 at 80 mph a turkey literally ran across two lanes of traffic in front of my car. The impact resulted in a massive plume of feathers and launched the bird 50 feet ahead of the car like a cannon. It was spectacular! The only damage to the car was a dent in the front license plate shaped like a turkey.

I live in a cabin in the the NC mountains now. Retirement is good. No more corporate rat race nonsense!

A person up here is nuts to have any dog smaller than 40 pounds or so. Small dogs and all cats are coyote, fox and bobcat dinner.

I’ve never been chased by a turkey before but have had tom geese get after me a few times. Only got caught once and it was flapping, angry goose going at me and they pinch like hell. Honk honk honk

My guess is that you don’t know much about turkies.

I've met a couple of wild turkeys that deserved it, and a couple that got it.

And a couple of geese.

And a couple of sheep.

So you’ve never been attacked by a rafter of turkeys, then?

A shotgun would be better, but I don’t think mail carriers are allowed to carry them.

This crap happens because stupid people think feeding wildlife is a fun hobby. The thing is, wild animals act exactly like feral people when they lose their fear of humans.

Having eaten both, I find neither to be gamey. Boar is gamey, it’s the gamiest game that ever gamed. Pretty sure BBQ was invented specifically to cover up the taste of boar.

Alligator is my favorite exotic meat.

I was walking through the woods once and one of them suddenly appeared and came after me. I left the area as fast as I could. I figured there was a nest nearby.
