Despite a request from the Biden administration to back a UN Security Council resolution condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Israel refrained from doing so, two diplomats familiar with the matter told The Times of Israel.
Eighty-one countries signed on to the resolution as co-sponsors, though the effort was ultimately vetoed by Russia.
Israel is one of the few countries that maintains relatively warm relations with both Ukraine, a fellow Western democracym as well as Russia which controls the airspace over Syria.

Also Russia is a big player in Syria as noted in the article.
Another slap in the face to Biden.
Same day utter fools here claiming Putin will attack Israel next
Free Republic is in need of Abilify ....anti psychotic drug
the israelis aren’t stupid
LET the europeans handle this f...g mess!
May Israel couldn’t find a side that stunk less.
Hooray, one post with common sense MAGA attitude!
We are more broke than ever. I can’t think of more foolishness than fighting a foreign war in Ukraine on a credit card and increase the burden on our children and grand children. This is Europe’s problem, Let them handle it. NATO countries were being defended on backs of US tax payers. President was the first president during my 62 years in this country who put America’s interests ahead of the globalists and neocons.
How can we be broke? Our checkbook still has checks in it.
Checks are only good if they don’t start bouncing.
Israel is offering to mediate talks between Putin and Zelensky. They probably want to be seen as a neutral country.
“Eighty-one countries signed on to the resolution as co-sponsors”
Anyone have a list of the 81 countries. It would be interesting to see who is on the side of freedom and democracy.
I don’t necessarily blame Israel for it but maybe Ukraine will remember if/when in the future Israel comes under attack again by a murderous commie despot which surrounds it.
As an aside, I think Ukraine’s national identity is being galvanized in blood just like Israel’s was.
I’d be interested in seeing how many of those nations signed on to anti-Israeli resolutions proposed at that sewer on the East River
Israel is they just didn’t want to get into this mess.
Ukraine and US were the only two countries to vote Against a resolution combating the glorification of Nazis.

its all a complex game..and Trump was the only one who could play it for our country’s interest...
and his enemies were legion at home and abroad
That does appear to make sensible. But let's bring it closer to home, if the guy across the street from your house continually beats his young children on his front yard, is it appropriate for you to take no action?
Unfortunately, unpleasantries that happen across the street eventually impact the entire neighborhood. What happens in one major location tends, as did Covid, to impact the entire globe. (See, for instance, WWII.)
If Russia invades a sovereign nation such as Ukraine is the rest of the globe wise in not reacting in an effective manner?
There are certainly grey areas with this.
I’m getting more cynical and depressed every day...this world is a sewer with only a few like Trump courageously swimming thru it
I wouldn’t totally disagree with any of that.
Thanks for the post.
