The Ukrainian military has released a statement thanking a marine for allegedly sacrificing himself in order to demolish a bridge that would allow Russian tanks to advance.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine released the statement Friday via social media, reporting that Vitaliy Volodymyrovych Skakun, a battalion engineer, had voluntarily undertaken a mission to mine out the support structure of the Genichesky Bridge near the Kyiv before Russian forces could cross it. Shakun did not have time to flee the blast zone before detonating the explosives, and informed his battalion that he would be blowing it up regardless.

There are so many things to learn and know in the world that I’ve not spent much time learning about the Ukraine and its military. I guess I’m going to learn now. More power to them. Corrupt of not they don’t deserve the thug, Putin, knock at their doors.

You can wire those things up beforehand and detonate remotely but it wouldn’t make for such an exciting tale of self destruction 🤪

In war oversights are paid for in blood. Imagine for patriotic Ukrainians, unlike globalist Democrats, sabotaging your own infrastructure is a difficult emotional task.

Well said.

“Horatius at the bridge. Except that Horatius was able to swim to safety.”

So it’s more like Byrhtnoth and his men holding the bridge in the OE poem called The Battle of Maldon.

I don’t know if they did, but a lot of the Ukie preps should have been preparing well hidden caches for stay-behind guerrilla teams armed with stingers and javelins.

The long Russian supply lines are their weak point. Hit and run raids on Russian rear-area/logistics troops like Finland in 38.

Bleed their supply lines, kill lots of conscripts who already have low morale and no motivation to get killed in Ukraine.

Better use of manpower than trying to stop Russian armored columns with AK-47s.
