On Thursday’s broadcast of “CBS Evening News,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken responded to a question on whether the United States will cut off purchases of oil and gas from Russia over its invasion of Ukraine by stating that we’re trying to ensure “that we inflict maximum pain on Russia” while at the same time, “minimizing any of the pain to us.”
Host Norah O’Donnell asked, “Russia’s economy’s fueled by gas, and the U.S. is a consumer. So, would the U.S. consider cutting off oil and gas purchases from Russia?”

I generally agree with that assessment because it’s too late. Europe and the US knew they needed to make a deal about Ukraine and they didn’t get it done. No use worrying about it now.

What good are sanctions of the US is still buy gas and oil from them?
We’re gonna impose economic sanctions, while at the same time give them money. Where does one begin with that thinking.
We should be shutting all of our consular offices and the embassy, recall all diplomatic staff and kicking every Russian diplomat, business person and student out of the US.
Biden specifically omitted the SWIFT system from sanctions. That’s how America pays for Russian energy.
That’s right, America’s high energy costs help pay for Russian invasion of Ukraine. No doubt The Big Guy gets his 10%.
