A Minnesota judge on Friday sentenced former police officer Kim Potter to two years for fatally shooting a Black motorist 10 months ago.
Hennepin County Judge Regina Chu handed down the “significant downward” punishment for the former Brooklyn Center police officer after emotional courtroom statements from the victim's loved ones and the defendant herself.
Chu ordered Potter to spend two-thirds of her sentence behind bars and one-third of it on supervised release. She's already served 58 days behind bars, which will go to her credit.
Don't know the status of Ben Crump's civil suit business, but two members of Daunte's clan were detained in handcuffs today following a scuffle in the courthouse lobby. Possibly over who did and did not get to be on camera today during the sentencing hearing. The victim impact statements were limited to four family members. It seems somebody was feeling slighted.
I admit I haven't followed the case closely. From what I've read, she was in a traffic stop that escalated to the point that she thought it necessary to pull a weapon. Instead of using the Taser, she used her hand gun by mistake. These are split second decisions being made by LEO's
The government medical tyrants seem to get a pass if they make a wrong decision and this is after weeks of deliberation.
At least it was much more subtle back then.
Helluva price to pay for being Stylish.
Yup, but back then there were rational Democrats like Sam Nunn and Zell Miller.
Back in the day I was pulled over a few times. Replying to questions, answering yes sir and no sir worked for me.
prolly a nice lady, that had absolutely no business at the sharp end...
I live outside the Twin Cities metro which is overwhelmingly red, and populated by normal people.
Helluva price to pay for being Stylish.
How fast can she run the hundred.
That said, this sentence is BS. Ahole was responsible for getting killed. His action forced her to make the error.
Wish they would finally put an end to this riot nonsense. Drop a few cluster bombs and that will be the end of it.
I have heard that Crump was at the Courthouse today. I don’t know if he was at the hearing and I don’t have any document confirming this information.
On the facts you just told me, I would give the cop the benefit of the doubt. Surrender the badge. If the victim caused the circumstances that cause the cop to reach for her taser, he deserves some of the blame.
Obviously, he did not deserve to lose his life but I wouldn't let him off the hook if he was being a dumb@$$. But I did not read all the facts on this case.
I’m waiting for one of these righteous shootings and after the shooter (usually a cop) is tried and convicted to tell the parents of the DEAD porch ape “I’m really sorry about the loss of your THUG SON, he was a violent criminal who preyed on the innocent and was apparently incapable of following simple verbal commands, had you taught him simple english instead of GHETTO LANGUAGE and TRIED to instill respect for other people and the law, he might still be alive”.
Of course that will never happen because of “RACE”, but I think that is the only way these oh so sad parents will ever understand that acting like a MURDERING, RAPEING, THIEVING BARBARIAN usually ends badly for these types of people.
If the cops don’t get them some innocent civilian will, then that innocent cop or civilian will be tried and convicted because of “RACE”!
Crump was definitely at the courthouse today. He was standing with Daunte Wright’s mother and father during the press conference shortly after sentencing.
I’ll have to look into this some more. The brief reports I’ve seen suggest she should have used the Taser instead of the handgun. That line of logic doesn’t make sense to me if the cop is under attack. If the suspect wasn’t being cooperative and not an active threat to her life, she should have called for a backup.
And yet...
Windier than a biotch out there tonight.
Ok then...
It is unfortunate that we have so many in this country that would rather worship some thug mentality then America’s finest. Years ago, back in the 60’s they started the black is Beautiful campaign and it has snowballed into black is better and the youth have been indoctrinated into this philosophy. This has blown up into “I’m black and you can’t tell me what to do!” Backed by the indoctrination of the school system they now have everyone believing that.
Where has it not gone to hell?
I might move.
It’s a sliding scale. Californians are still moving to Oregon.
Kim Potter was an idiot. She would have gotten 5 years if I were the judge. Two is not enough.
Stupid people should never be cops.
