From the perspective of freedom-loving citizens in this country, the trucker convoys and blockades protesting mask and vaccine mandates are a stirring spectacle of patriotism, civic responsibility, and true grit. They represent the offset to heavy-handed and arrogant government that is using everything in its power to suppress their efforts: threats, fines, police coercion, theft of property, and the manifestly illegal sequestering of funds donated to the truckers by private individuals.
A conflict of this nature is often framed as the state versus the nation, the authorities versus the people. Whether it applies to the current situation, as we will see, is problematic.
The issue is the preservation, or restitution, of the government-violated Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms meant to guarantee common life in a democratic country—or, at any rate, a country now under the sway of an avowedly communist leader and several autocratic provincial premiers, a country that would appear well on the road to despotic control.
The problem is that fully two-thirds of the electorate rejects or is indifferent to the trucker revolt against unscrupulous and demagogic power.
According to an Angus Reid poll, 54% of Canadians would like to see the COVID-19 mandates lifted, yet they are not interested in standing up for the Freedom Convoy that carries their banner. The trucker unions jealous of their perquisites and the bought-and-paid-for national press have also sided with the wielders of tyrannical authority.
Ironically, it is popular opposition to a popular uprising that will determine the future of the country. This explains why, despite the courage and the exhilarating display of patriotic fervor animating the trucker convoys, numbers of Canadians have left or are considering leaving the country. I know of many such. They are not defectors but long-suffering citizens

Its my understanding that those who supported opposing England with force at the beginning of our revolution were also a minority. Half of people will settle for status quo until it negatively impacts their own lives.
Samuel Adams
This is what they fear.
I bet that if they put Trump in charge and he slashed their petrol prices in half that would really piss them off!
My recollection is it was about 1/3 for, 1/3 against, and 1/3 uncommitted for the Revolution. I believe there are MORE than 1/3 FOR right now.
For all of its size and small population, Canada is a very heavily urbanized country. Personal freedom doesn’t mean a damn thing to most Canadians. They are the most docile, compliant sheep you’ll ever meet.
Will the polls make Justin Fidelovich Trudeau think he can get away with a Tienanmen Square-type crackdown? The Chinese Communist Party did not have to contend with social media or cell phones in 1989; the Canadian government would have less control over what the public saw. Maybe Trudeau thinks it would be like Reagan facing down the striking air traffic controllers and give him a public relations victory. I don’t know enough about Canada to say how the average Canadian would react.
If Trudeau doesn’t crack down hard on the ‘freedom protestors’, how will he ever implement a CCP style government as his CCP handlers are pushing him to do, and the public at large does not seem to mind?

Canada is weak. Now is the time to strike.
That’s the problem here too. Far too many love the government stepping on their neck. “ Give me more jabs. Lock me down harder. Close those restaurants. Save me mommy government.”
a Tienanmen Square-type crackdown
—
Would entail having the military slaughter at least 10,000 people - protestors, passers-by, bus passengers, auto passengers, people in nearby homes, and the press, while closing hospitals to all but the military, then denying it ever happened.
The bodies would have to be run over with tracked vehicles, bulldozed into piles, burned, and then fire-hosed down the sewers ; all attempts to get the truth out would entail imprisoning or outright killing of the leakers on the spot.
That’s a a Tienanmen Square-type crackdown.
The only solution is a secession of the Western provinces.
By that I mean a solution to the US problem. That gives us a place to join, or move to.
Sadly, we have no common cause with the covidiots or the Super Bowl commercials and SB halftime people anymore.
If we win the war can we move the border between Windsor and Detroit ten miles northward? :-)
We'll call it, "Operation 'Get Behind the Darkies'!"
Only 1/3 of the population of the US colonies supported the Revolution of 1776. That was all it took. Eventually, the indifferent came over to the side of the winners.
When the Poutine runs out, the gloves come off!!!
Why doesn’t Justine tell the truckers they don’t have to take the jab? If they haven’t been required to until now, what’s the friggen point??
My daughter-in-law is from Calgary.
She was a very sweet woman when she first came here and still is.
However 20 plus years of living in the US has chaffed off some of that sweetness as she has become accustomed to living in America.
