Colorado Gov. Jared Polis (D) said Sunday that Americans should treat each other with "civility and respect" as individuals make different decisions for themselves on whether or not they wear a face covering.
Asked by host Sandra Smith on "Fox News Sunday" if he thinks recent moves by blue states to ease masking requirements were confusing given contradictory views from the White House and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Polis pointed out that the federal government is just issuing recommendations and is not mandating masks.
"In Colorado, we haven't had a statewide mass requirement for close to a year," Polis said. "What the CDC puts out, Sandra, is guidance, they're recommendations on science. The CDC doesn't mandate anything. It's really been up to local governments and ... in some states governors to determine when or if people need to wear a mask."
This comes after a number of Democratic-led states such as California, Oregon, New Jersey and New York lift indoor masking requirements.
Polis said the CDC should offer guidance without political influence but that individuals should be allowed to make their own decisions on if they wear a mask.
"There's something more important than whether you wear a mask or not and that's civility and respect," he said. "And if you're somebody who doesn't like wearing masks respect those who do. If you're somebody who likes wearing masks, please respect those who don't."
President Joe Biden said last week during an interview with NBC News that Democratic governors' decisions to lift mask mandates were "premature."
And CDC director Rochelle Walensky said in a radio interview on WYPR's "Midday" that the agency still "recommends that people mask in public indoor settings in areas of high or substantial transmission."
But White House chief medical adviser Anthony Fauci told the Financial Times that the U.S. is "heading out of" the "full-blown pandemic phase of COVID-19."
IOW: Live and let live.
A VAST improvement over
"My mask protects you...
your mask protects me"
So what is he sayin’ besides nothing?
“Shut up, Karans!”
Effin Dick with Ears....
You have no moral high ground.
You set people against each other...
Where was that respect and civility over the last two years? Now that the screw is turning against them, we need to be civil. How hypocritical them.
Eff 'em all in the ear!
There are over 19,000 people named Karen in Colorado. There won’t be ‘civility’.
Gov. Polesmoker suddenly wants ‘civility’. Has he seen Denver lately?
“ My mask protects you...your mask protects me”
I have a very conservative friend (California conservative) who said a derivative of that to me during a conversation this past weekend. It was during a discussion because I refuse to get the gene therapy and he is on booster 37 or whatever. We have been friends since second grade and we are both in our mid sixties, but I have never come closer to ending that friendship than after that comment. But that is what this is all about, dividing people.
Explains it all!
Sylvester McFauxi McBiden.
He is about one of the few dems out there with periods of sanity.
“In Colorado, we haven’t had a statewide mass requirement for close to a year,”
that’s actually true ... polis refused to renew statewide emergency orders about a year ago that would allow enforcement fines to be levied ...
however, several county health departments subsequently issued their own unenforceable mask “mandates” and all the local media went along with the fake “mandates”, but the truth of the matter is that those county “orders” all state “should” and not “must” when you read the actual language and they have zero enforcement capability ...
retail businesses know that even if the sheeple of the state do not, because we and a few others never wear masks in public or in a retail stores and not a single business has ever said squat to us... in fact, no one in any business pays the least bit of attention as to whether a customer is wearing a mask or not ...
The “something more important” is the upcoming election.
Had a masked customer at Walmart point to his face than mine. I asked him if he had a problem. He asked if I forgot my mask. I said no, its in my pocket and walked away.
Real men don’t wear face diapers
Exactly. I expect to hear more diplomatic talking points coming from the left as we get closer to the election. This abusive relationship needs to end. I’m hoping that the American people won’t be willing to forgive and forget who put them through that abuse.
Like cheek to jowl at a super bowl like the maskless hypocritical celebutards and mayor of Los Angeles?
...like the maskless at Obama's birthday party?
...like maskless Occasional-Cortex at a drag bar in Florida?
I have to say that at least this governor was better than other Democrat governors during this Chinese caused pandemic. And he has no problem being on Fox News which is more than I can say about many linguini spine Republicans.
