Democrats Have Lost Their Majority in the Senate (For Now) and That’s Kind of a Big Deal; But Will Republicans Be United?

Last week, Sen. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) suffered a stroke and underwent brain surgery. He is currently hospitalized in Albuquerque. He is expected to return to the U.S. Senate in four to six weeks, assuming there are no further medical complications. However, during his absence, Democrats no longer have a majority in the Senate—Republicans have a 50-49 majority.
This means that until Luján returns, a united GOP can block the Democrats’ agenda and there’s nothing the Democrats could do about it.
This is actually a big deal. In addition to blocking the Democrats’ legislative agenda, Luján’s absence could potentially impact Joe Biden’s Supreme Court nomination.
Biden has said he plans to announce his Supreme Court nominee at the end of February, and the average time from nomination to confirmation in recent decades has been 41 days. If Lujan’s return to the U.S. Senate is delayed, it could change the timeline or the outcome of Biden’s Supreme Court nomination.

Sorry, he is a little confused as to whether he is Mitt Romney or Fred Sanford, but he still believes that he is a Republican.

They will be completely united except for the few required to pass Democrat bills.

No ill wishes directed at the Senator; I hope he recovers fully. But having him out of action is a good thing.

I voted for the (10th Amendment loving) character that he played in 2012.

Don’t expect anything drastic from Mitch. Even if he wanted to, he’s got to drag along Murkowski and Collins. And, the GOP doesn’t control the House. So, some big ticket foot dragging is possible on major Biden nominations, but that’s the most we could realistically hope for.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say as bluntly as possible:
Republicans lack the spine, and the leadership to do what's necessary to block the Biden Build Back Broke agenda.
Just sayin' ...

Senator Lujan from the great state of N.M. will not be coming back to his senate seat for another 3 months if everything went well.
If they got to the stroke very quickly then he would be back in about 3 months and if not, then he goes about at least 6 months to a year.
You have a 3 hour window after the stroke starts in your body. If you get very quickly then 3 months is o.k. if you don not like 1 to 2 hours after stroke then a little longer rehab and so forth and if you get it 2 to 3 hours then rehab is a lot longer.
In the old days a person was dead after stroke since rehab as not available.
To: SeekAndFind
I am a good enough person to wish Luján an eventual recovery.
No rush on that, but I do want him to recover within a year or so.

Here would be the PERFECT time to launch new bills and legislation... but McConnell will do, NOTHING.What would be the point? They won't pass the House and if somehow they did Brandon would veto them.

Once Juan McStain finally left the Senate along with Senator Flaky, the Turtle has been very effective holding the Republicans together, especially on judicial nominations.

Romney is a problem, but there are others.
That robot-like John Thune is worthless. Less than worthless. He offers nothing, no ideas, no policies and NO real support for the America First agenda.
It’s like he is in another room when a problem needs attention.
South Dakota must have someone who registers “Alive.”
