Senator Lujan from the great state of N.M. will not be coming back to his senate seat for another 3 months if everything went well.
If they got to the stroke very quickly then he would be back in about 3 months and if not, then he goes about at least 6 months to a year.
You have a 3 hour window after the stroke starts in your body. If you get very quickly then 3 months is o.k. if you don not like 1 to 2 hours after stroke then a little longer rehab and so forth and if you get it 2 to 3 hours then rehab is a lot longer.
In the old days a person was dead after stroke since rehab as not available.

The RATs will just roll him in on a gurney or wheelchair and put his hand on the vote button.

Doctors performed "decompressive surgery" on him, likely a decompressive craniectomy.
If it was a full craniectomy, they removed a piece of his skull to relieve the pressure on the brain from the stroke.
If it was a partial craniectomy, they left a part of the skull attacked to all blood to continue flowing to it.
In either case, it is a much more serious recovery than just a stroke. His skull will have to heal, too.
