Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani said that if then President Donald Trump had imposed martial law in an effort to overturn the 2020 election results, the former president and many of his aides would have wound up behind bars.
That's according to Patrick Byrne, the former head of Overstock, who told The New York Times that Giuliani recently explained to him that he advised Trump against imposing martial law because "we would all end up in prison."
The Times has previously reported on Giuliani's opposition to instituting martial law. Despite his own endorsement of outlandish conspiracy theories about voter and election fraud, he became alarmed when former national security advisor Michael Flynn and former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell suggested imposing martial law.
According to the paper, Flynn, Powell, and Byrne went to the Oval Office on December 18, 2020 and laid out a plan that involved deploying the military to seize voting machines and ballots in key battleground states. Giuliani waited until Flynn and Powell had left the Oval Office and told Trump that their plan would get him impeached, the report said.

We “missed the boat”?
As in no one here knows who infamously said this?
“We have put together I think the most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics.”
I think everyone saw the steal coming. There was no doubt, no question in anyone’s mind, liberal or conservative, of what was going to happen.
The public counting of votes in the presence of all Senators and all Representatives is meant to prevent after-the-fact complaints that the counters cheated
————————————————————————
And yet, just the opposite occurred. And Mike Pence cooperated in the overthrow of the United States of America.
>>>Martial Law is the correct spelling.<<<
See what I mean, Jane? That correction was posted by "gitmo".
You can't make this stuff up. Off to Cuba! 😉
What's a "martial" thread without the inevitable dust-up about the man named Marshal and his Law?
A day without Marshal is like a day without sunshine!
“The opposite occurred”
No, it didn’t.
There were 535 votes submitted by the States. There were no competing electors - not a single one. And no State Legislature requested Congress to disregard their certified Electors.
The Republican Legislatures of Arizona, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia had SIXTY-THREE DAYS in which they could have acted to renounce or opposed the certification of their State’s Biden-Harris electors, and they did not do so.
The votes to be counted were the 535 votes delivered to the President of the Senate to open (not to count), and there were no others.
Hind sight is 20/20. If you claim you knew the depth of what was going to happen, I have no current reason to dispute you. But I don’t believe that Trump, all his supporters, Republicans in general and all non-leftist knew and “saw the steal coming” and ignored doing anything to remedy the situation.
If Trump and others knew it was coming, why did they not have a plan? Why did Trup not get a meting of the mind with even his VP?
No, you can claim you knew it. but you can’t claim to know what everyone knew.
Not if you called up ten million militia.
Yep, combined with the Roberts SCOTUS.
Unless you get dyslexic and spell it 'Marital law thinking about wife's edicts.
SIXTY-THREE DAYS
—————————————————
Oh wow. I am so impressed. You capitalized SIXTY-THREE DAYS.
As if that meant anything. As if hundreds of legal challenges still pending before state legislatures should simply be thrown out because the electors were meeting in Congress.
I don’t care if SIX HUNDRED AND SIXTY THREE days after the election there was still no decisive action taken by that traitor Pence and the other losers in Congress, there should never have been an overthrow of the government as happened courtesy of Mike Pence.
Well let’s put it this way. We knew it. We knew that, because Biden told us and other signs were obvious, that fraud was going to happen. Which it did.
So the real point is what could be done about it?
And the answer was to turn post election results over to a drunk, a Kracken lady, a shyster lawyer named Wood, and some pillow guy.
Sigh.
Well, then, you didn't pay much attention to the Transition Integrity Project, which was pretty open and honest about what they were going to do.
They were responsible for all the Red Mirage propaganda blitzed out after October 15, and repeated in the NYT, Boston Globe, and all the major networks. I linked to The Guardian because, wth a mostly UK audience, they were most forthcoming about what they were about to try to pull off.
Why Team Trump did not pay attention to this out-in-the-open planning to steal the election and why they didn't have a plan bigger than Lin Wood, Sidney Powell, and the My Pillow guy? Your guess is as good as mine.
Sorry, there is no remedy for an election stolen in a fully bipartisan manner. The foxes are guarding the electoral hen house.

I will agree with you there that with those as the active resources, we were firing blanks.
Byrne was the one who wrote about the mediocrity. Who was the mediocrity?
I agree it’s good that he didn’t try to implement martial law. Elections have been contested before, and will be again. The precedent of the disputed states and electors of 1876 is what should have been followed, however it was not, and that is what should be left for debate.
Martial law would have been considered extreme in almost any possible scenario, and thankfully only a few of his supporters were actually calling for it.. As bad as the situation is now, it would be significantly worse had that option been tried, whether Trump held on to power or not.
With all due respect, Comrade, GFY.
Not to mention there’s no authority for martial law if there is a functioning civilian court system. Disagreeing with such courts is not a reason for martial law.
It may be a reason to launch a needed revolution or civil war, but that transcends martial law.
“ told Trump that their plan would get him impeached”
They tried anyway for any reason without any evidence didn’t they? 🤪
What I post here about the 2020 election is totally consistent with what I was saying back then. The same can’t be said about a lot of folks here on FR who get on here and post crap about the 2020 election process that they would have written off as lunacy if Hillary Clinton’s people were saying the same thing in 2016.
P.S. — The U.S. Supreme Court never should have even taken that case in 2000. The Court has no role in a presidential election except in limited cases involving civil rights. Florida was perfectly capable of figuring out who its electors were.
