Former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani said that if then President Donald Trump had imposed martial law in an effort to overturn the 2020 election results, the former president and many of his aides would have wound up behind bars.
That's according to Patrick Byrne, the former head of Overstock, who told The New York Times that Giuliani recently explained to him that he advised Trump against imposing martial law because "we would all end up in prison."
The Times has previously reported on Giuliani's opposition to instituting martial law. Despite his own endorsement of outlandish conspiracy theories about voter and election fraud, he became alarmed when former national security advisor Michael Flynn and former Trump lawyer Sidney Powell suggested imposing martial law.
According to the paper, Flynn, Powell, and Byrne went to the Oval Office on December 18, 2020 and laid out a plan that involved deploying the military to seize voting machines and ballots in key battleground states. Giuliani waited until Flynn and Powell had left the Oval Office and told Trump that their plan would get him impeached, the report said.

yes, and if Trump had ordered all Biden voters shoot he would be in prison too. But, Trump did neither of these things or any of the other things that the Media-Dem Party has accused him of “thinking about”.
I don’t put ANYTHING past the corrupt government.
The thing is... No matter what Trump would or would not do - he was gonna get impeached.
Which of course actually happened.
So. Should Trump have declared Martial Law? I would have supported that. Even though it would not would not have worked.
Trump was not “trying to overturn the election.”
He wanted obvious fraud investigated before the election could be certified.
Algore delayed certification because ofr butterfly ballots and dimpled chads for weeks in 2000.
The Kraken lady, OTOH, is just plain ol' cracked.
He’s probably right. Doing so would have moved us toward a violent split. Not doing so delayed that inevitability. Smart and powerful people need to start planning on it to minimize the suffering.
Business Insider is inaccurately portraying Trump as someone who wanted to impose martial law and be a dictator.
It seems like Giuliani doesn’t understand that his statements are being used to promote that false and harmful narrative.
I’ll wait to hear what Byrne actually said and not crap taken out of context or from “anonymous sources.” Business Insider is a leftist outlet.
SO instead, the putsch took power and now we all go to prison instead.
Also, what’s this “if then President Donald Trump had imposed martial law in an effort to overturn the 2020 election results,”
The election results WERE overturned by the putsch. We should never refer to Trump “overturning” the election.
There was no chance of martial law anyway. The senior levels of the military were solidly on the side of the coup as was demonstrated the summer before during the black and communist youth riots.
The entire DC government was weaponized against Trump and by extension, the American people.
I trust business insiders accuracy in reporting as much as I do MSNBC.
Exactly. Rounded up by the spelling police. Everybody knows that they have no mercy. They would have thrown away the key.
Coming Soon!
Which sewage treatment plant did Lin Wood emerge from?
Makes one think, doesn't it.
Id like to know what Hillary was thinking
Al Gore is an @sshole, but no certification was ever delayed in that election. The Electoral College convened on schedule in December 2000 and certified the electoral votes, and a joint session of Congress convened in January 2001 as required by law — with Al Gore presiding as VP, as required by law — to formally count and validate the electoral votes.
Martial Law is the correct spelling.
“outlandish conspiracy theories about voter and election fraud”
Whooooeeeee.
So what?
The Supreme Court had already ruled against Gore. No such ruling ever occurred - either for or against Trump in 2020.
Also, no one had a problem with Pence presiding. What he did though that was illegal was to accept fraudulent electors while legal challenges were pending.
So why? Why did Pence stab Trump in the back? Because he wanted to. He had a legal constitutional right to defer and let Leahy conduct the Kangaroo Court, but No.... He WANTED to disregard the law and betray Trump and the American public.
You can spin this all you want to in your lame attempts to say Pence had no choice but to follow the Constitution, but that is just not the case.
